Hi folks. I am here, still watching, just taking a bit of a break. I did try to post about making wine in response to elly a couple of days ago, but my internet connection went and I lost the lot, so took that as a sign!

I've been doing some working out too. Not as deep as munchki's but still significant.

I'm fortunate in that DH has a good job and we have savings etc. so any money I make is earmarked to fund the fun stuff really. But I've been spending so much time recently doing businessy stuff because of this challenge that I was losing my way where doing the fun stuff was concerned. So I had more money to do it, but no time, if that makes any sense. So I'm still here to support and I'll see where I go, but I'm making more time to do the things I enjoy too.

Since I've been MIA I've done the wedding album (all bar 2 pages anyway, which I really should be doing now), I've signed up for a circle journal on another board I belong to (haven't done one for 3 or 4 years and I've been getting withdrawal symptoms as I used to be in several at once at one time) and I've put my first ever story up for critique on a website and got some quite positive feedback. It's just a piece of fanfic, but I enjoyed writing it and I'd like to write more. Maybe I'll even write something of my own if I get into the swing of it. So anyway, for now, I've decided to back off and just enjoy life a bit more.

We had the pot luck supper for the youth orchestra that DD is off to France with last night and met the musical director who said he'd like her to try out for the county youth orchestra too as he needs more violinists. So we'll see how France goes and if she enjoys it she may want to do county too. The county orchestra also do foreign trips, so it would be a good life experience for her as well as musical experience/good on the uni application. She recognised some of the kids from a music course she did last summer holiday, so she's a bit happier on that front too. And one of the lads is the son of the chap who plays double bass in the string orchestra/symphony orchestra that she plays with on Saturday mornings. It's all very incestuous LOL.

Sorry for dropping out for so long and thanks for those who kept "liking" on FB - it helped me feel connected still.

2cats. Lovely to see you back as well....kind of like a homecoming this evening! I can relate to what you are saying as well. I may not have a lot of money, but then you really dont need alot to enjoy life to the full, ok so it helps a little lol, however I have been focusing so much and so hard at moving foward that I was forgetting to live or finding excuses for not living and enjoying life because I have been so scared that it would all happen all over again..if that makes sense. I need to make a bit more cash, however sometimes learning to live and have fun is just a bit more important and as long as my bills are paid and the cat has kibble, quite frankly I am a pretty happy munchki!

Ah ok, some definitions needed ;)

A circle journal is where a group of people (normally 8-12 - I've joined a group of 10) each make or buy a journal and decorate it to their choice of theme and then it gets sent around the group and each person adds some artwork on that theme. Then you get it back at the end all finished with a piece of artwork by each artist in it. This one has a twist in that there are 10 prompts for the journal and as it goes round each person chooses a prompt and works with it, so as the journal goes round you get fewer and fewer things to choose from. e.g. I've chosen Shakespeare plays, so I'll make a list of 10 Shakespeare plays and send it off with a piece of artwork of mine in it on a theme of or inspired in some way by one of them. The next person will choose from the remaining 9, and so on. So the final person has no choice and will have to do it on whichever play is left. It can be paint, mixed media, collage - whatever you like. Some of the other themes in the circle are lines from a particular poem, Guns n Roses songs, couples in literature - stuff like that.

Fanfic is a contraction of fan fiction. Basically you write a piece of fiction based around an existing book or series. e.g. there is Harry Potter fanfic, Twilight fanfic, Lord of the Rings fanfic etc. Some authors get really stroppy about fanfic and can threaten to sue over copyright, some are ok with it, and some actively encourage it. The author of the books my story was set in encourages it to get people writing, and just says that you have to stay true to the characters (no making them act in a way the real characters wouldn't), no erotica and no messing with the major characters (e.g. no marrying off main characters etc. as they may get married off in future books). A lot of people take a small incident that is mentioned in passing and expand on it, or do an incident from another person's point of view, or something like that. I hadn't written anything since school and an idea cropped up in a conversation on a forum so I played around with it. It was quite fun actually. :)

Yes, DD is very busy with her music. It's a fine line between her needing all the experience she can get to give her the chance of getting into a top music college and not overloading her so that she chucks it all in. She started practising her first piece for France tonight - the Adagio from Spartacus and Phrygia - so beautiful.
