I think my carrot is the feeling of freedom and choices the extra money would bring, also being able to help my girls
The stick feeling trapped and scared and wanting to escape, being powerless to help my DDs financially0 -
Even, what are your plans for this week, have you been making much? I'm guessing GD is hampering you a bit, are you able to do any Ebaying or anything? I'm doing bits here and there but not much, however I am glad I'm doing it as it's keeping us going; I've got the free photo mug and album coming for presents as well as an Amazon voucher and a House of Fraser one so that'll keep us from having to pay out for some Father's Day gifts; my carrot is being able to get my hair done, this week, as I've got four-inch roots from not being able to afford a hair cut; my stick is feeling ashamed of being such a scruff when I take the kids to school! - thought I'd go for the easier target this week instead of my main goals (clear debts etc) as it'll make me feel better and a bit more confident maybe! xxI have come here to chew bubblegum and kick @ss.... and I'm all out of bubblegum.0

Can someone give me some advice?
I have a friend who has 2 young children, one is 2 and the other is starting school in september. She was planning on going to college in september to do somet or other and seemed really excited about it. She has however woken up this morning and decided that in January she is going travelling round the world with 2 kids in tow. Great idea, but she has 6k of debts, is living on benefits, and has these "ideas" all the time. She has now decided to ditch the college course, not put her daughter in school and to save all her money for the next 6 months and then !!!!!! off.
I love her dearly but I can only see this going one way and I don't wanna hurt her but I don't know what to tell her. I have asked her what she is doing about her debts and she says they are frozen and will be gone in december however I can't see how they will just disapear. She says she will put her daughter into school when she gets back but I can't help thinking that is a bad idea aswell.
Am I being overly critical or am I seeing it clearly?0 -
To be brutally honest it sounds like she has lost the plot a bit and is looking for any way to escape her debts. I think you are seeing it totally clearly Babymoo! Isn't it illegal not to send your kids to school? dont know as I havent got kids but thought it was?0

Hey As far as school is concerned, I think, first year i.e. reception is not compulsory but from year 1 is. I think it would be really hard travelling with a 2yr old and 4/5 yr old and it isn't something I'd want to do. I can see that it could potentially be beneficial for the children but overall not sure I think it is a good idea and that's not taking into account the debt which def. needs to be sorted. Starting college and making plans for the future is the sensible thing to do, but unfortunately not everyone wants to be sensibleLife is a work in progress0

Glad its not just me, I hope that she sorts herself out. I am not going to say anything to her as I don't see it happening I think its just another of her ideas which go as quickly as they come, if however she starts to make serious plans I will tell her what I think, she will fall out with me for it but id rather her do that for me telling the truth than lying.0

the legal situation with school is that compulsory education starts from the first term after a childs 5th brithday although most schools intake is the first september following the childs 4th birthday. if she kept child off school once they were of compulsory education age she would need to be actively home educating the child.
this trip could be a fantastic plan for some families and a disaster for others.
the big worry is the debt because I would imagine having some savings available as a back up would be really important as its impossible to forsee how things will pan out. I think it is a bit irresponsible to take 2 young children off travelling for 6 months with no safety net.
