I have decided to wait a couple of weeks after we have settled in the house and call to get a rescue dog, we may have a little while to wait, but I am sure it will be for the best. i have grown up with a border collie, she is the most lovely dog in the whole wide world and would hurt a play is so gentle and loving, and also a lab too oh and a german shepard but they aren't really little dogs are they lol
oh what are those horrible yuppy little rat creatures ???
oh westies and border terriers never get those, my mother has a border terrier , ugly little rat who tries to nip and yaps for england then the next door neighbour has a westie which just yaps all day and drives everyone mad!
my 4 year old ends up telling it to shut up, which then ends up him getting told of by me or nanny for being rude to the dog ( although i wish i could tell it to shut up.)
i would never get a small dog. i hate them.0 -
Re Puppy farms - Many Tears rescue takes a lot of the reject, unsold pups or the breeding dogs no longer wanted - have a look here: (Scroll down to get to the dogs)

cleopatra 4485- When you decide have a look at Many Tears animal rescue website too:
http://manytearsrescue.webs.com/dogslookingforhomes.htm
They are based in Camarthenshire, South Wales but have animals on foster all over the country, they do have a lot of ex puppy farm dogs which they recommend be homed with another dog as they have never lived in a house before - but they also have lots of other dogs too.
Some of the stories are heartbreaking
Edit: Spooky  I must have been typing this as Hethmar was posting the same thing!! Great minds and all that!0 -
Trouble is catlou, I try not to look at the dogs as it is heartbreaking in every rescue isnt it. Ive got my two rescue boys and I wish I could take more but I have to be practical as I know I can cope with the cost and the responsibility of these two but any more may not get the 110% they deserve (Ralphs eye ointment alone is £50 a month now  and every walk is a bit of a performance putting on his false feet
). Thats why I do vollie work as at least you feel you are helping the other dogs in some way.

Cor, thats a bit harsh isnt it?
Ive had rotties/labs, JRs, Dalmatians and currently have two of your hated terriers! Both rescue. The border terrier, is without doubt the easiest dog we have ever had. 100% recall, rarely yaps! and is completely trustworthy and faithful, even though he was dumped out on the streets of Manchester by his previous owner.
You cant generalise about dogs like that. It does come down to their individual nature AND the owners they are lumbered with. Why are the dogs yapping all day anyway - are they outside and no one at home?0 -

I thnk that is very wise, and will be far less stressful for you and the dog - it also means you have time to settle yourselves in and ensure the house is ready for a dog - checking the garden is escape proof etc!0 -

I really dislike Westies too. There is one near us that sits by the window waiting for my dog and I and as soon as we go past even on the other side of the road will jump up and bark like mad at us. Even when he is not there my dog gets very tense when we approach the house. Also my dog was sitting next to me in a park when another dog off the lead came up and tried to sniff my Staff's behind. She did not like this and growled and then snapped at him. There was no contact and she was on the lead. She never ever takes notice of strangers just other dogs sometimes. So this guy who was passing by ordered me to take my dog out the park as she was dangerous to kids. We got in a bit of a heated discusson dogs barking at other dogs out of fear and not allowing your dog to approach a strangers dog. Anyway he walked off saying he was going to get the police and as he was passing a Westie this went mad and started barking and going for him and he bent down and said "what a cute little dog unlike that monster".
Where I use to live also there was a house opposite a bus stop and anyone who waited at the bus stop use to get barked at by two westies. They would bark like mad in the window in turns. One would bark like mad and then jump down and the other would jump up onto the window ledge barking like mad. Tag team of Westies.
I think the problem is that they are seen as cute little doggies so their bad behaviour is just seen as cute and not dealt with.0 -

I would want to research the health checks that should ba carried out on both Pugs and CKCS before breeding and be certain they had been carried out on both parents - and that the results were acceptable... if this pup is from a responsible breeder, it should be really going back to them for rehoming...
- Do be wary of some of the dodgy puppy scams that go on through the classifieds or you could get ripped off - google puppy scams and I am sure you will find info.
No reputable Cavalier or Pug breeder would cross them, this I am afraid is just someone looking to make money out of a "designer" cross breed:mad:0 -
we have a shitzu she came home with us at the age of 6 weeks and has been brought up with my now 2 yr old they are inseperable, i did read up on the breed before we got her they do have smaller faces but not squashed which means they tend to have an over bite which can lead to dental problems, our little girl is now 8 months old she doesnt snore like someone mentioned a few pages back, she does tend to bark a bit only when someone is at the door and when strangers come in but she settles rather quickly once she has been spoken to i think most breeds of dog will bark at the door. OH and she doesnt smell doggy either, she has her coat cut every 8 weeks and is kept short the only long part is her tail and face typicall shitzu style.
we did try to find a dog in rescue places before we got her but every where we looked wouldnt rehome a dog with a child, not the best place to be looking if u have kids as a lot of them have problems.
if the op KNOWS she can cope with baby and puppy then why not, not sure why everyone is so against it.
JUST MY OPINIONbest win in 2011:eek: 4 nights in Las Vegas
