tried calling you however, couldn't get through to you so left a message on your voicemail. I'd like to inform you that with effect from 1st June we have made changes to our internet charges. However, I'd like to inform you that there is a fair usage policy of 500MB. As you've unlimited internet pack that also have a fair usage of 500MB.
**********, with our new internet charges, if you exceed your allowance of 500MB you'll be charge £5.00 for additional 500MB.
According to our terms and condition, if you bill is 10% more than your normal bill due to the change in our policy then we can cancel your contract without the early cancellation fee.
Please get back to me if your next bill is more than usual then we can go ahead and cancel your contract.
Trust that the above information is helpful.
Kind regards,
scotsgazza, if you are reading this can you please post more information regarding who sent this to you? I am in discussion with VF although they keep stating that I would be liable for early termination charges. If I could point them to someone in their company who states that I wouldn't be liable that would be a massive help.
(you can pm through this website if you'd rather not publicise their personal details)
Thanks

Well, I have just been to Vodafone's weblink to calculate how Tom is making up his figures. Here's what I found out:
10000 email monthly = 333 emails per day
8000 bbc pages monthly = 266 pages daily (note: i entered into documents option on the webpage for clairity)
24 google maps (######???) = 24 photos monthly (for clarity)
Based on Tom's figures, I would have ended up consuming 21.6 GB (yes 21.6 GB again) in one month!!!

Awesome, thanks to this thread just managed to cancel my Nokia N900 on vf contract 4 months in- (no cancellation charge)
Its an awesome phone, which I'm kind of gutted about handing back, but then again they have made such a pigs ear of it its really not worth having it anymore with them and I'm glad to see the back of it finally. I want a smartphone, not an ornament!
Same old story, discovered 'unlimited' internet data was limited to 500MB FUP after 3 weeks of ownership and they wouldn't take it back becase I'd had it too long (even though they clearly misued the word 'unlimited'; how would I have ever taken that the wrong way lol)
I'm just so grateful i managed to read this forum before they snuck that little change in and kept me tied down for another 12+ months and earned another £5/£10 per month charge for something that should have been free anyway based on my original contract
Currently I seem to be throttled to 2G anyway and have been for a couple of weeks, I always go over the 500MB FUP as its nowhere near enough on these phones, admittedly not by much though, I always use less than 1GB.
Vodafone suck so much, this little turn of events and the underhand and downright sneaky way they set about implementing these changes really was the straw that broke the camels back for me. I'm just so happy I don't have to speak to any more of their customer prevention advisers any longer and can just get on with my life.
So VF, thanks for dropping the bat and leaving me with that window of opportunity to cancel the whole deal, thanks also to everyone on this thread who provided me with the info I needed to sever all ties with them.
:T
HI CAPTAIN,
Are you able to advise how you went about cancelling? Im on the NOKIA N900 aswell and its one huge data consumer. I had clarificaiton early on in my contract about not being charged over the FUP and now they are going to charge us is shocking. Id appreciate some assistance on how you went about it,
Thanks0 -

Same boat, any advise would be greatly appreciated!0 -
I rang up customer services a minute ago and got the run around so badly. I initially told by the CSA that there is no change to the contract and that my contract has always had the clause that i was mentioning. He then transferred me to a supervisor who told me that nothing was being changed to the contract even though i would now be charged for going over 500mb of the fair usage. When I said clause 27 of my contract is not going to apply anymore he said that i should sign up for one of the mobile broadband deals.0

Couple of things I've picked up on:
- You will NOT be able to cancel freely until they give official notice to ALL affected customers.
- Normally companies have to provide 30 days notice when they change their terms and conditions where you will be able to leave WITHOUT paying your early termination fee (you can only do this after they have given official notice)
- The last update from Vodafone seems to suggest they aren't going to change their terms and conditions, but are just going to get tighter on the FUP, otherwise those who are just 1 month in a contract could leave with no further fees, and NOT have to return the handset.

Regardless of if this is a change in T&C or not, given this is not implemented by Vodafone yet it's unlikely anyone has actually managed to cancel under it. You certainly can't cancel because there may be a change coming only if the change does/ will affect you.
New poster and only two posts, it may be true but I'd take it with a pinch of salt at the moment.0 -

I was very very angry when I spoke to them-
It wasn't easy either- I spoke to 3 people in total and the last guy was quoting sections 12 13 and 14 of the contract saying they reserve the right to blah blah blah**
I cut him short and explained that 10.2 states that any changes to the plan must be communicated to me before they take effect. Therefore anything else it says in the contract is irrelevant, as we have no contract. You can't just pick and choose which terms you want to follow. Nor can you sell someone an 'unlimited' contract, then add a limit to it 3 months later once you've got all the handsets out so you can make more money. There are laws against this kind of behaviour. This is called ripping people off.
I was asked if i regularly go over the 500MB limit, to which I replied yes.
'OK he says, when would you like us to collect it?'...... I almost fell off my chair with surprise.
Suggests to me they know full well that they are in the wrong here- I reckon the staff have just been told to make it as difficult as possible for people wanting to leave the contract. Even by quoting stats which are completely untrue, as a method of bullying their customers into giving up the fight. In a couple of weeks the changes will be in place, then they'll really have you by the nuts, so to speak. No getting out then. So they'll only have to find excuses for a short while longer then its game over.
They just quote stats at you, meaningless gibberish like 'well 500MB is plenty for 99% and enough for over 10,000 x' blah blah blah don't even let them start, just cut them off and rubbish all their suggestions and tell them you've heard it all before, accept nothing less unless they give you what is fair.
Best of luck......0
