Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Challenge went well over the weekend. I have removed the clothes from the exercise bike and have started with 7 minutes every morning intending to build up later.

On the decluttering side I have emptied two boxes from the living room and one from the bedroom although I nearly got sidetracked into one of my favourite pastimes of sorting my books in the bookcases. Emptying the boxes I found two missing camcorder tapes, we've only recently bought a cheap camcorder (£20) which will play our old tapes so we had a happy time watching the girls when they were toddlers, 15 years ago

I have spoken to my neighbour & got the phone number of Gary the Gasman, apparently a good gas fitter with a good bum. What more could you ask for in a man needed to fit a gas fire?

    Hi Memorygirl,

    Going great guns as always!

To everyone who is hoping to declutter, I've just done a marathon session myself. Took a good few months, a lot of discipline, and more time than I care to remember on ebay and queuing at the post office.

My house is now sparkling, and organised, and I put things away! I never used to do that, but now, as only one thing that I have used is 'out' it looks so obvoiusly messy that I want to put it away. I read a book on decluttering (lent it to a friend, so don't know the title, sorry!), and it really helped. The basic principle was to group things together where you use them. So don't put all the stationery in one place because it's stationery. Put the scissors and the selotape near the jiffy bags (yep, ebay). Keep the pens near the phone with a pad. I also now keep my sticky labels in the kitchen (so I can label a jar with the date it goes off, good for long lasting things like curry paste, that say three months and I can't remember when that is). It's called something along the lines of 'the toothbrush principle'.

Anyway, this weekend was the first time the house truly took care of itself. All I did was put things back when I used them. And I must say, it was a strange feeling. It was calm, not having things everywhere. But it also felt odd. I wasn't sure what to do with myself (and I am usually very busy, so that I always have a reason NOT to pair the last of the socks etc). Once I didn't have a job that I was avoiding doing, the free time seemed a bit strange. However, I settled down with a take that DVD, and then a good book, and loved it!

So I guess what I'm saying is, to all those declutters, keep going! And once you've got everything organised (a place for everything!) it is easy to keep it tidy. You just have to get cleared out to the point that you can put everything somewhere.

And mmmm to all the cauliflower recipes. I have a whole tub of plain natural yoghurt I bought for a recipe I didn't need (grrr). Any suggestions for me? Thanks!

Hiya Charlyze -thanks for de-lurking. I think the 100 day challenge has inspired loads of people to come out and play.

The ciabatta recipe is nomnomnom -although I can't for the life of me work out how flour, water, yeast, salt and sugar and oh!! of course time results in so many different yummy tastes and textures - Never mind Harry Potter - bakers are the realmagicians as far as I'm concerned.

Hope he leaves you some (thats why the recipe makes 2 loaves - so you can hide one from the family -:rotfl::rotfl:)

    Hiya dfw844 - howzit???

You have inspired me to pullout a roll of black bin bags. I remember doing Mindstore years back with Jack Black (on my goal list to work with him one day soon). He said to get great momentum in your life go home and fill 7 bin bags and get rid.................

Its bin day on Wednesday and my neighbours are away so I can hijack their bin IYSWIM.

Sooooooooooo - to get myself over the middle of the day hump, I've printed off a ten-by-ten grid and I'm going to go find one hundred things to throw out.

I've got Divas of Jazz on - so I will aim to whizz around before the end of the CD.

    Back soon

Well that first 100 didn't take too long - one binbag out into the bin and two stashed under the baby's buggy ready to go to the Charity Shop as soon as the rain passes.

Think I will try for another 100 because I'm only up to "Makin' Whoopie"

    Back again

Another 100 things - and another binbag for the wheelie bin.

Off to take the first 2 bags to the Charity Shop (between showers)

Oh my goodness me you're quick! I only turned my back for a second.

I love how we all inspire each other. You've got me using the breadmaker and the sewing machine again, and now I've got you decluttering!

And, on a side note, homemade bread is not only delicious, but also so so cheap. Although when I proudly tell DH my loaf only cost 17p he does always point out that I haven't costed in the electricity...

If anyone knows anywhere good to bulk buy strong flour I'd also be interested.

    Keep on keeping on MG!

Well that really blasted through the "middle of the afternoon fog" - I think I will keep th eroll of black bin liners out and use as a quick "energy burst" in the middle of the day.

    You know ............ sing-along-a-fill-a-bag time;)

Wonder if its possible to keep a 100 a day habit up for the full 100 days? Imagine how clear your house would be???

    Oh well - I can dream:D
