Claire - I'd suggest that you try a pack and see how it works. I think they would sell if they're not too heavy.
OliveOyl - please add me in to the Football Shirt list of collectors. Once you've a website / flyers, let me know and I'll do what I can. As stated by others, I can hold onto shirts as long as you need me too. Can't help with freight, but at the start of the Pakistan floods, airlines were carrying goods foc - I know no more than that bald fact, not sure how that was managed... anyone know?
Lara - good luck in Uganda. I worked there in the mid-1980s. I don't know what your research is, but I've a contact in Kampala still if that's any help, so please PM me. I worked in an orphanage in the north of the capital, near Bat Valley. Sorry I missed this earlier - the thread moves rather fast.
MG - you have my address. If you are heading this way for a seminar I have a lot of contacts here and can help with any admin, bookings, contacts etc. I've contacts with schools, council, university and the third sector in the area. Let's see what we can negotiate on accommodation - and it's a great place to bring the children too... so a weekend family break built in perhaps?
Hypno & MG - thank you so much for the grounding techniques. I love my voluntary work, but the negativity from some people is really disappointing, but I shall try the bubble / sparkly shower trick.
To everyone else - good luck.0 -
This may be a silly question
I'm preparing for my meetings on Monday and I don't know what costs are involved in setting up a web-site
I think we can get it designed for free or a little cost - I've even had offers from here :A (Orphanage were quoted +/- £3,500 )
Do you have to buy space? (address I suppose I mean)
Pay rent on this address each year?
I hear news reports of "good" addresses (eg sex.com) going for huge amounts.....
So I've checked the addy I think we would want and it doesn't seem to exist ...
A domain name should only cost around £8-10 oer year, or possibly less for a .org I think..
Some of the free/cheap "build your own" sites are quite good & might be enough for you, without knowing what you want it's hard to tell, but I can look into this if you want
Hosting too would probably be quite cheap if Linux/Apache host, best to go for one of those as your software options are better (less expensive) - Once you have the hosting space you get a "temporary address" to build the site, then you go back to wherever you got your domain name from and tell it to point to the hosting space.. (don't worry usually control panels for these sites are very easy to use and it's obvious what you have to do, besides you have the Matrix)
I would recommend not getting a host with a mail server, or at least tell them you don't need one as these can be more problematic and if ever anything goes wrong or you do move hosts you want no interruption to your mail (trust me this happened with our wee family business) instead go to Google Apps and you can use your domain name there free for up to 50 addresses - i think, and besides you'd be a charity so probably would get free business account? this needs a one off set up after you have your domain name (again possibly a small cost or free depending on who you know..) but once done you get mail to you@yourdominname all through the Googlemail interface without having to use an expensive host server (hosts tack on a lot of cost for mail servers as they're expensive to run due to the spam mail element, they can also slow the site) - and IMHO you can't beat Googles spam filter!!
in all I think you could set this up for around £120-£250 a year then add on your design and setup (one time set up costs) should be nowhere near 3500 IMHO (else I'd be rich rich rich...:rotfl:)
The set up is the expensive bit and if you've got offers already they should know what type of host you need to look for to suit their coding/software requirements..

>>Freegle for Footie Kits, what a great idea , between that and DS's local Club - I should be able to grab a few too, let me know where to send them....

Morning Matrix
Popeye and I cancelled going to the theatre and instead went out for a meal, where I bent his ear big-time with ideas/plans(I think he guessed the need, it was his idea
) But now I have more queries :rotfl: Here's the first one
So many of you have embraced the idea of collecting 2nd hand football shirts that I am wishing I was in the UK as well as here (in Johannesburg)The Orphanage (it's not an Orphanage as such, the children don't live there, it is a support centre, day care centre for Orphans and vulnerable children. Looking after the children and carers of child and granny headed households, in that situation largely as a result of HIV)
It is a registered charity here, should the collection of kits be a registered charity itself? in the UK? Is there any benefit? (eg I only give to registered charities) financial help?
Thanks for your help :A, I'm off out now, but back at lunchtime0 -
Morning All,
off to DS's footie, already done soup in SC(overnight), emptied existing freezer into new to me one ready to defrost later later, to refill with batches for winter
Been to local Sunday Market for veg shop, grabbed a bargain for a bulk buy :T
Mum likes my Stovies so much she's bringing round stuff for me to batch cook a load for her this afternoon, and then working this evening..
OliveOyl, don't know about need to register here, sorry, for Google purposes I think it shouldn't matter where you are, will contact my Uncle in SA (Jo'berg too..) to see if his company can do anything about transport: know his company has connections in UK not sure what, but maybe we could tag a load onto one of their imports?
gotta fly, OH and DS calling... laterz..

I agree with fantacee (great name!) on the website, Olive - my work website costs £30 for two years, and £140 a year for hosting. My green website, its not hosted yet, but I just paid £7 for two years for the name. I don't have mail server, just use a gmail account.
I'll look at freecycle for children's football kits on here - it will give me the push to join the local group!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Morning guys
I have got another coaching call in an hour so popped in for a quick catch-up.

At that point I am heads down into my lists for the SSG Trainings - so nearly there and with a bit of work should have everything set up in ACT to "launch" the programmes by the end of this week.
Send loads of positive vibes cos I had a bitof a wobble this morning - cold sweats about would I make enough to feed my boys that kind of thing:eek:
I think I am over the panic now - go my 15 mnute blitz lists ready to go and my timer at the ready

Morning all! Wow I have caught up! Phew!
Claire - love the cupcakes, very trendy at the mo! Also who was it who just said they dealt in beads? And also want to sell other people's jewellery?? Was it DT? Could you link up?
Kits 4 kids = brilliant idea, name and scheme. I have less than no interest in football but I will ask around.
To all those trying to lose weight, I'm no expert here as it's not something I've ever really tried hard to do, but I definitely agree to not obsessing over the scales, just go for a plan to make you feel and look good - and I also find that when I am feeling low it's easy to mope around [STRIKE]nibbling[/STRIKE] scoffing chocolate biscuits but when I'm busy with lots of exciting stuff I simply don't have time for any of that! Also if you are trying to cut out crisps/ biscuits/ junky-type stuff, just don't buy any, then when you go to the cupboard and it isn't there you have to have some nuts or fruit instead. And if munching an apple doesn't inspire you then try a fruit salad, or making regular salads more inspiring (I like to add fruit, seeds and nuts to my regular lettuce etc as the main part of a meal) or a yummy smoothy - really into these at the mo with some 'basics' apple juice, a banana and random other fruit eg mango, blackberries, strawberries etc. When we had lots of fruit in the summer I pureed a load and froze in ice cube bags then I can just pop a strawberry cube in and whizz it all up with the blender. A bit late for home-produced fruit now but the frozen puree is definitely an idea to bear in mind in case you find a lot of bargain fruit on offer somewhere - and so much better and more inspiring than buying stuff then finding half of it going soggy and mouldy a couple of days later.
Fantacee, thanks so much for your post, I know it wasn't aimed at me but it has just answered a load of questions I was about to ask, so thanks very much! Just taking my first baby steps in this new techie world!
MG I found you on Linkedin and sent you an invitation - did it get through?
Finally, it seems there are lots of university finance people here so I think you may be just the people I need to answer this question... I have been asked if I would be able to accept funding from a Japanese research grant to pay for my services (this is from a Japanese university). I have no idea what I would need to be able to do this, can anyone help me please? Presumably they would give me a grant number and the name of the institution and funding body - where would I go from there? Any help gratefully received!
To all those looking for a new job, lots of positive thoughts coming your way, you deserve better and you will get it!
Forgot to say thanks for the positive thinking/ grounding exercises, those are really great, I will definitely be practicing those!0 -

Hi,
Before I got the job as accountant, I used to work in the research finance/project management dept at the same uni.
I remember looking after a prohject which was funded by a Japanese Uni - and I don't think it was any different to any other project.
We had hundred of externally funded projects from all sorts of places - the EU ones were the worse.
If you need any info, shout x0 -
Thanks TMIF, I really do need help as I'm just an individual and have no idea how I would go about turning a grant number into actual cash!
If you don't want to clutter up the thread you can PM me, I'd be very grateful!0
