Seriously, I don't know why. In comparison to some other accountants I know, I am positively a pink fluffy bunny.
How the hell do I stop being scary?!:eek:
They tell me I am intimidating... I laugh and say that if it was necessary, I could be even more scary!!
I think it's because we say no to them.... they aren't used to it... "because I'm an academic, and.... <complete the end of the sentence as appropriate>"!
(I had one of those this morning, and I ended up having to tell him that I didn't care if his cat filled in the form, if it wasn't done he wasn't getting what he wanted. It felt good)

OK - I've just scanned 4 pages so I hope I get this right
Kavics & Hypno & Crickett re the marathons - you're officially mad & need treatment
Hypno - the violin - it was a small thing to you but you are wonderful
MG /DS1 & neighbour - aaaaawwwwww that is so nice - round of applause to the neighbour & to DS1 for appreciating as well
Fantacee - Hi there - Aiberdeen area? The Secret (the book that MG suggested & all this came from) is somewhere, but Mr Big & the Matrix appearsed after that - possibly around page 90
Someone whos name escapes me (begins with MMM) - will check out you website shortly...
clairewop - 120 pairs of earrings - way to go girl
crickett - can't help you with not feeling that your scary - were they not joking & just meant that you were so organised & efficient that you made the others feel ineffectual?
Alisonpennypincher - of course people would buy photos from the net - at the moments pictures on canvases are really popular - and in view of the Secret that we are all reading- can you ask people to tell you what their dream is & you could maybe then "visualise" this in photos for them -I know what I mean but this may not make sense

Well first of all you need them to tell you (constructively) what it is about you that scares them. Is there some kind of feedback questionnaire that you could devise to hand out and ask people to respond (anonymously) to give you some feedback. I do this as a line manager once a year (just before my appraisal) It would appear that it is not your dress sense if you have already adapted that. Are you a straight talking kind of a person? I like that in someone but a lot of people find it hard to deal with. You really need more information if you are to tackle it. Or was the boss having a laugh?
Claire - WOW just WOW you will soon be a cottage industry.
All marathon runners - YIPPEE - so pleased for you all. I was not accepted this year but I dont see that as a negative, so I will be cheering you all on!!
Anyone I have missed I am sorry but I am supposed to be working. Can you all quieten down for the morning so I can catch up at lunch? Please, pretty please? Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
Morning Everyone
I'm off sick at the moment and trying to motivate myself to do some planning for my future business. I think I will have to get a Facebook page for the business even though I'm not a fan of these sites.
Claire - well done on all the sales. It's amazing how it's taken off for you, you must be ecstatic.:T
Kavics and Hypno - I would have loved to have run the marathon but sometimes things are unobtainable. I will be watching next year and cheering you on. If you are doing it for charity then send us the info. I would be happy to donate.
Memory Girl - I'm glad to hear that the laptop is working. Mind you I would have been no help. I'm still excited about the F5 key refreshing the page which someone here mentioned the other day.
To anyone else with exciting news :j

Oh HELL NO....! I am sooo not having anything to do with marathons... well, maybe snarfing a snickers bar sometime today...and even they aren't called marathons anymore!! :rotfl:ClootiesMum wrote: »crickett - can't help you with not feeling that your scary - were they not joking & just meant that you were so organised & efficient that you made the others feel ineffectual?
Oh, no it was a serious "sit down with your bosses boss meeting" and there were no smiles at all.I have no clue about how to not be scary. Going to have to apply my mind to it. I don't want to terrify people...I just want to be able to do my job.

Thanks, that is some good advice there. Think I shall devise a feedback questionnaire and ask them to tell me if they think I am terrifying and why they think I am terrifying!!
I must say, part of me is thinking I should send an email to them all telling them to get over it. If they want to be terrified... well stand back ....! But then my sensible side takes over and I figure, until I have my letters after my name and my business off the ground, I might as well try and work out how to be less scary.

Is he the sort who like to be 'THE BOSS' and make others feel intimidated and it doesn't work with you. Perhaps he is used to a different reaction to what you give him.
By the way you don't seem intimidating on here, very nice actually soto them.:rotfl:

Okay Crickett - don't know what to suggest BUT there is a good side
You weren't told you were needing to improve at your job
You weren't told that people refuse to work with you
Your colleagues still speak to you - or you would have noticed this before.
Would you be up to having an informal meeting with them en masse & saying that you've been advised that you're scary in their eyes & what do they think you could do to change this - say you're not really like this & apologise , however, I wouldn't mention the pink fluffy bunny bit - because that's all they'll see from then on..

Actually, no... the bosses boss seems to like me... which kind of added to the shock of the whole thing!parsniphead wrote: »By the way you don't seem intimidating on here, very nice actually soto them.:rotfl:
Thank you for saying that. I think I needed to hear/see it!ClootiesMum wrote: »Okay Crickett - don't know what to suggest BUT there is a good side

Oh, quite right Clootiesmum, I can see the positives in it...and yes, I think I would be up for an informal meeting with them... but I might intimidate all 5 of them all at once!! :rotfl: I think I will try and moderate my body language and speak slightly softer or something. Maybe that will work?! And I think I might raise the point in my one to one meetings with them where we have a bit of a laugh and a joke anyway.
