How can I put a positive slant on the "Jeremy Kyle years", ie bringing up a child? He has disabilities which has meant finding childcare has been, well, I don't want to say impossible but it hasn't happened. So I am ready for work, but I don't want to highlight reasons that I haven't been working which may give an employer an idea that I would be a pain to employ, if you see what I mean? Does that make any sense at all? Is "family commitments" enough of a reason to be unemployed these days?
Many thanks.

i too have a *special* little girl and finding child care has been a struggle, but i have been able to pad out my cv with being a volunteer.
it means i 'work' when i can and the organisation is happy to have a few good hours from me each week, its a win/win0 -
hi all
I did my tree last night and it's up on the wall! Thanks for the inspiration
If anyone fancies taking a look at these short films - they are very motivational and inspirational, especially for those who are starting businesses/making changes in their lives. http://www.simpletruths.com/movies.asp
They don't take long to watch and I love them!!

I have sent MG a pm about this and she suggested I post on here to see if you peeps have any ideas. My OH and I currently work, OH has got the most horrendous shifts at the moment and not likely to change, I work parttime.
We have a business which in an ideal world, OH would run fulltime. However we are in rented accommodation and need to move to expand the business, we have put in a final offer on a house that ticks most of the boxes but the vendor isn't playing.
We have a very successful ebay shop and a very kind Tregemred has offered help on building a website. I have sent some flyers and info off to her.
The business is garden machinery/small plant, sell/service/repair basically we'll turn our hand to anything. Currently supplying local garages with nets of logs and kindling. We need to keep going forwards so any help in kicking @ss would be appreciated and pointers on how to move upto the next level.

Perhaps for the time being you could put your ebay shop as your homepage on here so that people could have a look etc (ie until your website is up and running) - also where abouts are you based (sorry if you've already posted this)2020 Mortgage-Free Wannabes #20 £1495.03/£2760 OP0 -
Dear Everyone
This week has been a busy one as my Mum and Dad have been over to stay with us for the first time ever. It was a bit of a mixed bag, shall I say bright, sunny outlook with a few thundery showers?! Sometimes my Mum and I have a difficult time communicating. It's important to my Mum that her opinion is considered the 'right' one. When we talk about my life decisions and future plans she disagrees with, she feels that it's important to try to correct me. Strangely this also happens when we talk about art, design or furniture.
This time, instead of just agreeing with everything including all criticism I argued back. While perhaps a step forward in some ways, this didn't really work well and I really want to find another way to react that isn't just agreeing all the time (lying and self-hating) or disagreeing all the time (stropping like Kevin the teenager). Before I would have been deeply devastated, but now I see that this is not a major disaster and in order to find a good way forward there has to be some experimenting along the way. It is hard to be 'okay' with confrontation but I am trying to think about relationships as elastic and flexible, rather than something that will shatter if I do something wrong.
I have recently joined a new church (Unitarian), which was quite a surprise especially to me as I am not religious (although I did have a religious upbringing). Today the poster on the door said "Our religion is Love, and the Universe is our sacred text"
It made me think of you all and the friendship we have here. The sermon was about carrying 'home' with us wherever we go which was very apt as this time next week I will be in Kampala, at the start of my own PhD fieldwork challenge.
My hand is very firmly up for the MG Matrix!!! :money::A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -

Oh I can relate to this!- I have a rather strained relationship with my mum at times, and I have to choose whether to say - you could be right (and then ignore the advice) or stand up for myself and my beliefs. A real difficult one at times though!

I relate too. My father and I always disagree, I always stand up for myself and he recently admitted that secretly he quite likes that
. I always felt I didn't really belong to my family as I did my own things (and they never approved!) but we all learn from each other and that's the point, isn't it? I love my parents but glad that they live 2 hours flight away, we get on well if we don't see each other often!

I'm not sure if I dreamt this or not (yes these things do go round in my head in the middle of the night  ) but is there a Facebook page that goes along with this thread? I thought one had been mentioned?
Thanks anyone who knows0
