  • Tonights challenge... made me have a slight nostalgic sniffle. Mr Big mentioned Kites. I love kites.

When I was 6 or 7, I used to race home from school so that I could watch the old 1960s Batman series. They were reruns of reruns, but I was hooked, and so totally in love with Batman and Robin. (Think BAM! WHAM! KAPOW! :) )My Mum and Dad bought me a batman kite for my birthday. Oh how I loved that kite. It was my prized possession. I found it really hard to fly the kite though. Largely because no one helped me fly it. Mum and Dad were busy building a business and my sister was just way too cool to play with her sister...and I tried and I tried to fly it, but eventually gave up. And then came the fateful day... when Mum and Dad cleared out the toy box and got rid of my Batman Kite because I wasn't playing with it. I was DEVESTATED!

So, when I started living with my dear hubby and I told him this story, he arranged to buy me another kite for my very next birthday. We have gone slightly mad with it (last count 5 kites, including a fluorescent Sopwith Camel and a very groovy dragonfly) and everytime there is a good wind, we are to be found in the park next door to our house, flying kites and enjoying ourselves immensely. And there is always at least one wag who sings "Lets go fly a kite"...oh how original! :D

I do apologise for that indulgence of some nostlagia. Off to do something immensely creative now... like... umm... read maybe?! :)

  • crickett, there is a large open grass area near me and there are often people flying kites when it's windy.

  • Hi MG

Just letting you know that the books arrived today. They look great. About the workshop idea ..... think that's great. My suggestion would be to make some flyers to go home in book bags. Make contact with local schools and ask them to send them home with year 6 (10/11). Their parents would probably be up for it if the kids are due to sit end of primary tests or entrance exams for secondary. Right now (next few weeks) is the time to grab these customers! If you got say 5 kids from a class of 30 then by approaching 10 schools you would have the fees nearly paid. What about seeing if a school would buy you in to do a whole class workshop. You could offer the school a discount if they book a class of 30. Or how about offering it to the teachers in a school?

    Just a few ideas.

    Enjoy your weekend.

The thinking back to childhood memories has unsettled me. I didn't have a particularly great childhood, think domestic abuse and other issues. I try hard not to think about it and not dwell on it, so all sorts stirred up in me tonight..

  • Evening all!!

Finally made it to the end of the thread!! Was a fantastic read, have also been keeping up with the blog at the same time!!

Wanted to let you know I received my book as well this morning and read it in double quick time (had already mastered speed reading). Since finishing I have not managed to stop thinking in 'mind map' (eggs, french sticks, bananas has been going round my head all day). Am struggling to see how I can use it for CIMA at the moment but I think that is my closed mindedness, if that is a word, to pictures versus notes so will be sitting down with a text book and some coloured pens tomorrow.

Will keep up from now on and although I won't be doing Mr Bigs challenges (working, a 2 year old, a 3 year old and studying doesn't leave ANY time) I will be cheering you all on!!!!

    GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!!

    - So far all the men in uniform I've met have not quite lived up to the Richard Gere standard, although they do make good friends.
-Someone mentioned getting their 6 year old to read...first proper book I read at that age was Heidi - maybe something I should dig out for this weekend (along with my bubbles, something I have always loved)
    - Haven't fully gone through the challenges yet but when I was little I wanted to do the job i am doing now and that is still the only job I want to do.
    - For everyone looking out for copies of The Secret etc have you tried your local charity shops? I'd decided needed a copy of the Dairy cookbook, its old and was sold by milkmen (I think), I was sure this was going to be an epic search and probably cost me over the odds in the end. First charity shop I walked into (and one of the ones I really enjoy supporting) and there was a pristine copy on the shelf at a much lower price than expected, I donated the difference). I'm guessing that was the universe at work
