Hi there! This is the Old Style Daily Thread for 4 may .It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning
Taking the day off work today and going sailing. One of only 2 occasions each year when I pull on a wetsuit and get into a 14 foot dinghy and race around Falmouth. It's a 2 man thing and always a good day out. Work sport thing.... Sunny and windy today, should be perfect.
Managed to erect the steel frame for the polytunnel. It went ok, with no swears. Doors and wood base to do next, then hope for a non windy day on Friday for the cover. Rounded out the day with a BBQ. Watched the Disney movie Cars.... quite funny reminded me of the film Doc Hollywood with Michael J Fox, if you have ever seen both?
Apparently i saved £19 by buying my shopping in ASDA according to their new shopping comparison thingy. Just put the till receipt number and store number in their computer and the site works out what you bought and compares it with all the other shops..... I guess they are being honest?
Well, need to get my stuff together... have a good day folks.

Good morning N9eav and all who follow. N9eav - have a great day on the water!
Well, it's been ages since I've posted on here. A lot of work has been done on the house and last week we had our first proper family visit when DS2, DIL and my gorgeous 8-month old DGD came to stay. The time just flew by and I barely got near the computer. We had fantastic weather so were out and about most of the time. It's taken me ages to get back to reality.
I hope you are all well. (((Hugs)) to all who are poorly or anxious, and welcome to any newbies I have missed.
The weather has turned a lot cooler over the last couple of days; I see that the forecast for the UK is for cooler weather, too. It's about time it really started to feel summery - it is May, after all!
On the OS front, I haven't meal-planned for ages but hope to get back into it this week. Dinner tonight is pork chops which I shall probably do with roast potatoes and veggies.
DH is still working on the house, although we took last week off to spend with the family which did us both the world of good. DS2 helped with a few jobs though so some progress was made. I now have a half-finished kitchen/dining room - the vaulted bit needs a bit more insulating then plasterboarding between the beams, and the kitchen ceiling needs the same - at the moment, they are both making the kitchen look a bit gloomy, so I shall be glad when they are done. The kitchen sink divides the two rooms up to work top height, which will look great once the sink bit has been finished - it's a luxury having a proper sink now after having had to use the old china one that was here before. That one is currently in the garden and we are deciding what to plant in it so at least it's being recycled!
Anyway, I will try and keep up with you all from now on.
Have a great day, everyone.

Good Morning All
N9eav - enjoy your sailing day.
No rain here this morning :j will get the washing on in a mo.
Made a good head start on my paperwork yesterday while OH & the kids were out. Still a lot to do but nice to have a slightly smaller to do list.
Plans are - daily housework to be done this morning, then in office and wait for OH to call me so I can meet him somewhere to pick up a form.
Need to meet DD at her school this afternoon & take her a change of clothes as she is off to see a play in London with her drama class. Downside is I need to wait till 11.30pm to pick her up, will be shattered tomorrow.
Have done a menu plan this week, first time in ages, and its very easy egg and chips tonight.
Off now, have a great day.x0 -
Morning! - I havent posted around here in ages, and theres a thread Ive not seen, the shabby chic thread!! Guess whats happening today? The shabby chic treasure hunt around my house and shed!!
This will be in moderation of course because the children kindly bought me home a cold when they went back to school after half term. But Ive just realised what I can do with all the odd bits of furniture Ive managed to accumulate with the intention of doing them up
Time to get on the case!
I hope everyone has a nice day sailing or gardening or decluttering or - heavens to betsy -RELAXING

Morning Peeps
had to scrape the ice off the car this morning:eek: very cold and frosty, c`mon weather we need sun and warm weather NOW! If i say it often enough we might just get some.
Mioliere - Glad you enjoyed the family visit, sounds as if the house is coming on in leaps and bounds. It will be nice when its finished and you can sit back and enjoy all your efforts.
N9eav - So far so good with your polytunnel, hope the wind keeps down for putting the cover on, have a good sailing day
Sistercas - I`ve never used the garden recycling service, tbh i didn`t know that there was one
We have a green wheelybin at the moment which is emptied once a fortnight, there is a horrible rumour that we may lose this and get a hessian sack instead. Hope not as all my hedge cuttings won`t fit in one of those  We also have a blue bin which is a slimmer version of the same bin and atm this is used for paper and card and emptied monthly. We will lose this soon and get a blue box which will never in a million years hold all our paper recycling and will fill with water when it rains. The blue bin will then be for bottles and cans which we use very little of so i may ask them to take it back when this happens.
Today will consist of mainly w*rk and then quite a lot of cleaning when i get home as the kitchen needs a good scrub before i can get everything back in there. The decorator finished yesterday and it does look nice but he has painted over the new trunking which holds all the cables  need to find out how to get eggshell paint of upvc now, if anyone has any ideas i will be very interested.
Right best go and do some w*rk, catch you all later.
Have a good day peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon

Morning all.
Laptop seems ok this morning, will not holding my breath though. Very cold here this morning and during the night, I did take a hot water bottle to bed
. Bright here today though, I will shove dd's bedding into wash.
I have the dentist this morning, for a filling, and need to pop to the bank after, so thats most of the morning gone, will make some twinks later on, and prepare the dinner. Did not get the grass mown yesterday, so will try and get thet done. I also need to do an online shop. Phew and thats my day off !!
Yesterday afternoon OH and I went to a local junk / antique fair, most of it was overpriced, but I did get a spice rack which was lovely and labled in french, and a set of old cookie cutters, so very pleased :T
Dinner tonight will involve the lamb leftovers from sunday, think I might do wedges and peas and brocoli.
Kathy, glad you enjoyed the time with your family, the house sounds like its really coming on xx
Have good days all xx0 -

Beautiful ravens - I haven't seen the shabby chic thread either so will head over and have a look later on
They are talking about banning SATS on the news???
Anyway - hope everyone had a good weekend and BIG :grouphug: to everyone who wants or needs them. DD1 has woken up feeling rotten so is staying home which is a shame for DD2 as I was supposed to be going in to work with her
She has had a bug threatening for a couple of days now bless her. I'm going to follow flylady this week and hopefully having a clean tidy house!! Yesterday I inherited some bedroom furniture so sorted my bedroom out :T bar one box which I will sort out later today.
I've got a bag of potatoes to use up and need to meal plan so that will be job no. 1 after school drop off. I still haven't planted any veg or pots
and garden desperately needs mowing so will attempt this later if the sun holds out too. Also need to sort out clean washing pile which is huge!!!:o

Good Morning everyone ,it seems to be bright and sunny at the moment so fingers crossed I have to get a little shopping this morning ,first this month and only things that are really needed.School run first though with the boys.
had a sad email from an old friend in Australia, he used to go to school with my eldest brother over 60 years ago. I had been in touch with him for the past couple of years .He sadly lost his son Paul to cancer last May, and he himself has been diagnosed with the dreadful discease now .He has been told that its terminal and just a matter of time.I feel so sorry for both him and his wife and family as they are only just coming to terms with losing their son Paul, and now Eddie is poorly. He is such a strong chap and was a tower of strength to me when I was ill ,always sending jokes and bits of things he found on the net to cheer me up.and often chatting online if I was up in the night as he lives in Adelaide and his time zones were opposite to mine.Sorry if I sound a bit down but when you get to 'know' someone via the net and they are always around you think they are always going to be .He has just had his golden wedding anniversary last year and was so chuffed that him and his beloved Beth had got a big certificate from the local Govenor. All these scientists are keen to keep making things to annihilate us all, I just wish they would put their talents to better use and save lives for a change.
Oh well I don't suppose my rant will help at all,but it does make me so angry at times .
Well, time I got a wriggle on, Take care all and have a good day

Good Morning all. Hope you have a lovely day on the water OP, and I'm shocked to hear that Yorkshire has frost
Today I'm back on my diet (I've already bought the bits I need (so this is saving money!); I have to finish painting the lounge (easier to hide the marks than clean them!); Help in the local playgroup; Move furniture around to hide marks on the carpet - I'm scrubbing them next!
If the sun holds until tomorrow I'll be working on the garden tomorrow. I have half a lasagne in the oven and half a roast chicken. So tonight will be chicken for tea with Lasagne tomorrow (again!).
Where is all this extra energy coming from??? I went to pick something up from a freeecycler last night and came to a house in a very neat street, that had childrens toys, toothbrushes and all sorts outside. There were barking dogs inside and I stood back and wondered what on earth I was doing there. Then I took a mental step back and realised that actually this house probably looks and sounds a lot like mine! So I have vowed to clean up my act. I'm off to the Skip with the contents of the front garden this morning and will learn how to use the strimmer!!
Love to everyone !! xMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
lol emsf :rotfl::rotfl:at the garden, that sounds my area, , well my street, minus the gardens. Only yards here.
Enjoy your sailing N9eav! Hope you have a great time:)
Jackie : - the poor thing, what a shock to the system for his poor wide x
Well its frosty here *shivers*. just praying it doesn't hailstone on me again :A.
Didn't do much on Sun and Mon, OH was shattered and it was ridiculously, instead the boys spent they pocket money.
Well going to crack on with the cleaning , sanding down some drawers, and planning the kitchen and food for the month. Hopefully it should be easy, i wish.
Right going to the monkeys sorted out.
Bye all x0
