They shouldn't be able to as you have to produce the V5 and some personal ID to get plates made up.0

I had some black metal dust caps once and I was surprised that they hadn't been stolen after a month on the car. Turned out they had seized on :rotfl:
Bog standard plastic ones from now on!0 -

According to this, you can ask the DVLA for replacement plates FOC.0 -
I know where to get plates for 4.99 each, all you have to do is select "show plate" from the drop down and no ID is required.
So so so so many ways to get around the rules if you have nefarious purposes in mind....Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
I had all sorts nicked off one of my old cars...the mudflaps, a wing mirror, dustcaps, all four wheel trims (two at a time). They even nicked the bumper one night. I've still not worked out how they got it off. You needed to open the boot to get at the fixings but the car was locked :huh:0

The day after I had replaced my Golf alloy wheels with new ones after they had been nabbed. I was a passenger in a friends car when I saw a golf (very similar to mine) go past us at about 90mph, followed by 3 squad cars with sirens blaring, I didnt think any more about it, until I went home and found a cop at my door.
Turns out that my car had had been knicked, and it was deemed that their next trick was to rob a post office and get a chase off the rozzers.
That was quite an insurance claim to sort out, as it involved 17 other cars and a dry stone wall, thankfully my best mates dad at the time had run the VW garage for over 20 years and did the negotiation for me.0 -
If the car was pinched surely it should have gone through the MIB (Motor Insurance Bureau, not Men in Black
) as the driver was uninsured....
You should only have had to claimed for the theft of your vehicle - not cover the expenses of the scrote who did the damageProud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
I had a roof trim nicked off my car a couple of weeks ago and didn't think much of it until I rang the dealer to find out the cost of a new one - they wanted £133 for this strip of rubber!! Now I know why it was nicked!0

Had a few things stole off my car wind deflectors/dust caps/alloy wheel centre caps. Strange for people to steal number plates, as ukmike said plenty of places selling them as show plates online. Then again could be opportunity seen a similar car and took them, all you can really do is report it.0
