We upgraded online, as hubby is in the last month of his contract.

Didn't complete new DD details, as it seems the existing ones will be used.

And he still has the same number.

From my experience with O2 (all orders done over the phone)

New contract at the end of old contract = no new SIM
Contract to PAYG = new SIM, need PAC code to keep same number
PAYG to contract (simplicity) = new SIM, need PAC code to keep same number.

I've just received an email from O2 to say my simplicity sim card is on it's way.

I know when my brother changed from contract (plus phone) to simplicity they sent him a new sim card out and he had to go through the keep my number process. He changed his over online and it showed his tariff had changed. Not sure why they sent a new sim card & number though.

A PAC number is only required when your migrating from another network to O2.
    What is a PAC number?

    • A PAC lets you move your number between mobile networks
    • It contains 3 letters and 6 numbers
    • PACs are valid for 30 days from the issue date

A PAC tells us that you've been given permission to transfer the number to us. We need your PAC before we can transfer your number so you'll save time if you contact your service provider first.

I may be mistaken about the PAC code bit, but there was some process to go through to keep your number when changing from PAYG to contract or vice versa.

I don't think there is for contract to different contract.

O2 have made me obtain a PAC code from them to migrate from Pay Monthly to Pay as you go and vice versa. The PAYG PAC codes had the prefix GEN, which I would assume is from the days when it was Genie Mobile(?)

A PAC number is only required when your moving your number between mobile networks so I'm not sure why O2 have asked you to obtain a PAC when your changing from O2 PAYT to O2 Contract and vice versa.

Maybe they operate the PAYG network and PAYM networks as separate entities, hence a PAC to move between the two. Everytime I've moved between PAYM and PAYG or vice versa, a new SIM and number has been provided, and I've had to go through obtaining a PAC from the one service, and give it to the other.

Daft, I know, but that's how O2 does it.

Oops, I seem to have opened a can of worms here. What was posted above seems feasible. Have checked hubbys account online and it says the right allowance (300 mins, unlimited texts etc) and it says he's on simplicity.

Here is a link to the keep my number form on the O2 website:

    http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=Companion,question=ref%28User%29:str%28Mobile%29,CASE=12343

If you click 'I'm moving from another network to O2' it will show they only require a PAC number when migrating from another mobile network.

The following two options dont require a PAC:
I'm moving from O2 Pay & Go to O2 Pay Monthly
I'm moving from O2 Pay Monthly to O2 Pay & Go
