Question about O2 simplicity

Hubby has just switched to O2 simplicity, done it online this morning. His tariff details have changed and everything. On his "orders" it says something like "Simplicity 10, 12 months, standard delivery".

My question is.... do they send a new sim card or have they just updated his account from their end so it's effective from now?

They send a new sim card, and if he was on pay as you go,they will also carry over any monies,as credit. They will also allow him to keep his existing number.Of course thats is easier if he was already on O2.

In order to keep his number,he can fill in a online form.I have recently gone over to simplicity, and so far very happy.

He was already on contract with O2, but has just bought the phone he wants. It worked out cheaper than having a new phone on a contract.

I know they would send him a new sim card if he was on PAYG or with another provider, but was already on an O2 contract.

I've just bought a blackberry on pay as you go and ordered the O2 Simplicity for blackberry last night (300 minutes - unlimited texts - unlimited Blackberry £10). It worked out alot cheaper than getting the phone on o2 contract and being stuck in a long contract for 18 or 24 months!

I'm on O2 pay as you go at the moment but even with O2 contract they send a new sim card out which has a new phone number then you have to fill in an online form to keep the same number: http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=Companion,question=ref%28User%29:str%28Mobile%29,CASE=12343

I think it takes around 3 days to transfer over, I'm not sure as I did not read through it properly. I will do so when my sim card arrives :)

I've just been reading the 'keep my number' page on the O2 website. It actually takes 1 - 4 working hours to transfer the number.
I'm moving from O2 Pay & Go to O2 Pay Monthly
    • We'll transfer your number and any existing balance within 1 – 4 working hours after you've pressed submit on the form.
    • We'll send you two text messages through the day to keep you up to date with things. If we do need anything else from you, we'll get in touch by email.
    • You'll then lose service on your new O2 sim card and your existing mobile number. Don't worry, this is normal, it means we're transferring your number. It won't take more than 4 working hours.
    • When you've lost service, make sure you have your new O2 Pay Monthly sim in your phone and keep switching it off and on every couple of hours until you get an O2 signal on the screen. If for whatever reason you don't, then get in touch and we’ll sort it out for you.
    • We'll then transfer your loyalty bonus. It takes us a little while to calculate so we'll credit this to your 4th bill.

I imagine it will be the same process to keep your number when changing from contract to simplicity contract apart from the transfer of credit :)

You won't get a new sim, it's just the standard thing that happens when an upgrade is done. Tariff transfer will start within 48 hours, but usually within the next few.

O2 do send a new sim card out. I ordered a simplicity contract last night and although I'm already an O2 customer and want to keep the same number they still send a new sim. You have to complete the keep my number form to transfer it over. I'm sure if it was done in store it would be done straight away.

You don't get a new sim, if you're simply upgrading your existing contract which the OP has done then it gets transferred over.

If the OP has gone through the process of ordering an O2 simplicity contract online and completing direct debit details etc then the sim card will be sent out and will have to go through the 'keep my number' process. If they phoned customers services then they probably could have upgraded their tarrif over the phone.

Vic, you do realise you can upgrade online right?

Yes but what we don't know is if the OP took out a new simplicity contract or upgraded online.
