    hi DFW's.
I am expecting a DFW baby, Due in August!
I already have a 3 year old boy who is really excited about being a big brother.
Unfortunatley all of our cashflow problems started when he was 6 months old and I sold all of the baby stuff at car boots and on Ebay etc as we really needed the money. But I have learnt from my mistakes and have been buying second hand items from carboots and ebay (not brand new). I got a lovely cot and a swinging pine crib for £5 each, bargain. I bought reusable nappies from ebay that will fit babe until 3 years or when potty trained (asap) they cost £100 but the savings in the future and too the environment will be much greater than disposables.

I wonder if anyone knows the answer to my question?
My hubby is Self employed, pays Ni and Tax etc, will he be entitled to any paternity pay from the Gov when baby is due so he can have some time with us?
He works away all of the time and we want im to have as much time with new baby as possible but we are really aware that if he doesn't work he doesnt get paid. Any ideas?

    Thanks
Look atfer the Pennies and the ££££'s will care for themselves :money:
  • Snaggles you must be getting nervous now!!!

Best of luck I'll keep popping in to your thread xxx

Hi gibboking, course you can join in, congratulations on your pregnancy, hope it passes quickly and smoothly for you. Well done on your bargains, it's amazing what you can pick up if you really try, and it's amazing how much stuff you get given too. I'm jealous about the reuseable nappies, I've been looking on eBay but never seem to spot any that look good.

Not sure about the paternity pay question sorry (I'm hopeless with stuff like that, wasn't even sure what I was entitled to!), but hopefully someone else might know - there's a few self employed people on the families board (who post on the pregnancy thread), they might be able to help?

Lol rich & elantan, I WAS really nervous, but I'm feeling quite brave about it all at the moment. I think it must be the calming influence of the smashing orangey bit! I've packed the bag with the baby stuff in it, mine's not quite finished yet but it just needs things like the camera putting in (waiting for batteries to finish charging lol), so it's pretty much done.

Had a horrible experience today though, a cyclist crashed into the side of our car (it was their fault not ours, we were all but stationary waiting to pull out of a car park and they were flying down the pavement not looking where they were going), but it really shook us up. Luckily the cyclist was okay (young lad of about 13-ish), but there's quite a bit of damage to our car, so we're just trying to find out if we will have to claim on the insurance, pay the excess and lose our no claims, or if there's any other way round it. I've just posted on the insurance board to see if anyone there can help.

Hubby is in a bit of a state though, can't help thinking 'what if.....' even though no-one was hurt.

Thanks tigtag - I'm trying to look on the bright side and think about how much worse it would have been if it HAD been our fault, or if the lad was now in hospital (or worse), but at the back of my mind, I can't help thinking it's unfair that hubby is such a careful driver, and now he's the one that will be punished for someone elses mistake.

It's happened to me for years, people drive into my car and drive off all the time, and I never manage to build up a no claims discount even though I've been driving for about 15 years with only one minor bump, but now it looks as though I've passed my bad luck onto him too :(

My only advice if you're that sort of person, is to get an old car that you don't mind driving with "war wounds", and that you'll drive until it dies.

A cyclist smacked into me once - I didn't bother getting the dint done. I had a puncture and came off a road - didn't bother getting the buckle in the wing done either.

If it affects the car mechanically - then you'll have to get it done, otherwise stick paint on to stop it rusting, and then forget about it.

That's exactly how we feel about our car.

Mechanically it's sound (I hope), but doesnt look too pretty, with the scratches etc.

At least there is less chance of it getting nicked

Sorry to hear about the accident Snaggles, glad you are all fine. We had a child run out on us once playing chicken and hubby hit him, luckily we were going slow and everyone was ok, but it does shake you up.

Its hard to beleive she is nearly due snaggles perhaps not for you ;) but its seems to have gone quickly. Make the most of it now and get plenty of sleep in while you can :D
