Thanks Bauk - I'm really thirsty all the time too (and hungry!), will have to try oats - mmmmmm, flapjack!

I seem to have LOADS of milk.....literally buckets full..... I'm just worrying that she's getting loads of foremilk and not enough hindmilk, which is one of the causes of the green nappies.

And ouch, nearly 10lbs!! DS was nearly 9lbs, so when DD came out at 7lbs, I was really surprised at how tiny she was.

Flapjack was my favourite too - was a great excuse to make huge slabs of it and munch on it all day! Thing is you don't get time to eat and drink with a baby - it's hard being a woman

Could you not express some of the foremilk off before you feed her?

I remember having loads of milk. Me and DH went out for our first meal together after DD was born and I had breast cups in to catch all the milk that was dripping - until they were full and were dripping out of the cups and down my top - it was a truly fashionable look and needless to say we didn't stick around long to eat - of course I would be wearing a light top :o

I'd love a little baby, DD was 8lbs 7 - just asked DH if he'd like another one - cannot repeat the answer

Pap, it's not a dumb question at all. When a baby first latches on (start sucking), they get foremilk first, which is thinner, so it's like a drink, it quenches their thirst. Then the hind milk should follow on, which is thicker and creamier, and higher in calories, so it's like their food. If they don't latch on properly, or if you don't breastfeed properly, they can end up getting too much of the foremilk and not enough of the hindmilk, so they feel full but they're not really getting everything they need to grow and develop. Hope I've explained that okay, I'm not really an expert yet lol.

    Snags,
We're off on the 14th for 20 days. Staying here there and everywhere Toronto, Brampton, Rockwood, Orillia and Burlington! (friends, Mom's, Dad's sisters)
My mom said it's been stupid hot (31) and the mosquitos are horrible as well. Great. (hee hee-any Americans this is a JOKE!) ;)
Canada is just like the States only cleaner, prettier, and with less Americans! lol
    We also have better accents.
(sorry all you yanks out there)

I did try expressing a bit first, but for a few days I ended up really engorged as my body obviously thought the baby was needing more milk. I was waking up in pain, soaked in milk. I'll go back to doing that if necessary though, because I'm determined not to give up yet!

I've got some breast cups - my health visitor gave them to me when I had ds, because I was running my own personal dairy then too . They make my chest look ridiculously huge though hahaha!

  • ahh thanks snaggles that makes sense  the wonders of mother nature  so if you were bottle feeding her formula you kinda skip the foremilk and go straight onto the hindmilk... is that a good/bad thing

  • bunny please please please go to tim hortons for me when you're in canada, i'm missing it so much it almost hurts! went on a mission to the qmc the other day because of rumours on the grapevine that there was a timmy ho's there... needless to say it had shut down and i was bitterly disappointed :o my housemate and i had already discussed which donuts and coffee we wanted :rotfl:

edit: is it not roll up the rim to win time also? what more incentive could you need to describe a donut to a desperate dieting foreigner?!

I'm not really sure.....maybe formula is sort of a mixture of the two? I'm not really that well up on formula milk as I've only ever used it to supplement breastfeeding, and that was 6 years ago, so I'm a bit rusty. :p
