Thankfully the Panorama programme didn't seem to be slating midwives (although I only saw a bit of it) - it did seem to be taking the view that they are doing the best they can, but they just don't have the staff and resources to cope.

The thing with midwives not getting jobs is very widespread apparently, the staff shortages are not a shortage of qualified midwives, just a shortage of money to pay them. There are recruitment freezes all over the place and budgets being cut, while all the while they're spending £45,000 per midwife on the 3 years training only for them not to get jobs at the end of it  Just been watching last night's panorama programme about midwifery shortages, what am I letting myself in for?!?!
But you know what the answer is? DIY..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Yes I think the programme showed they have an incredibly hard job to do in almost impossible circumstances. I would love to be a midwife, but not under those circumstances!Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

Yeah, they were mostly very hard working but in absolutely ridiculously stressful situations. I'd already decided I want to be a community midwife but now I'm doubly sure!!Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Same here hun, my first baby was episiotomy suction forceps etc... i had 3 more babies just fine. The last 2 weighing 9lb 1oz and and 9lb 7oz. You will be fine hun.You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !

My best friend is just finishing her access course the reason she has done it is to be a midwife which she has wanted to do all her life. Now she has seen the stressful life they lead she has changed her mind and is looking into becoming a social worker but i am not sure if this would be a great idea as thats also stressful. You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !
