roshydoshy, here is what I am doing to ''build resistance''. I sit in an unflattering position to get maximum access combined with tautness, and I le the thig run over just the very edge hair or two, then run backwards, which gives a no pluck pressure, which seemes to prepare be a bit for the next forward pluck stroke. I'm literally just tinkering at the edges until I feel braver. On the legs now I really like the feeling, I wouldn't say I like it anywhere else. I never wait three weeks, I kind of enjoy it too much. May be I'm swooping too soon, but mine say they take hairs the size of a grain of sand so....shouldn't be the problem.0

lostinrates wrote: »I'm skimming, so I haven't thanked, I hope to come back and read properly, but can any of the sesoned epilating girls help me? I bought an epilator and like it, am used to the pain on legs and pretty much underarms, and was tinkering with bikini line, not doing whole thing, but my epilator isn't plucking everything now....why? m I pressing too hard? Not hard enough? I don't think I'm going to fast, and I'm going in the right direction...
any tips?
I agree with LIR about making sure you get the tautness right otherwise you just end up faffing about with nothing much happening. Focus on a small area at a time, hold the skin very taut and work slowly from the outside on. It takes forever compared to other areas ime as you're only getting a few hairs at a time, which is why I often resort to waxing there.:starmod:C'est la vie:starmod:0 -
A couple of use ups to report!!
Elemis Pro-Radiance Cleanser. wiba? Yes, if it came with other items I use in a kit, but not as a seperate item, as is £27. Leaves my skin very soft and actually radiant (does exactly what it says on the tin!!)
Clinique All About Eyes. wiba? it was ok but I think I need the richer version. Would wait until bonus time though.0 -
Hi. Back from hols with 'muchspending' on toiletries this month!! Treated myself to two perfumes whilst away - L'Air de temps (I know its an old one but I love it for summer!!!) and Pure(DKNY I think!!) Haven't bought perfume for ages so it was a holiday treat -and got a few free samples as well.
Oh I love that fragrance, but then I love anything by Nina Ricci:Droshydoshy wrote: »
I bought an epilator yesterday and by gosh DOES IT STING!! I think i saw on an earlier monthly thread that you get used to the pain - well waxing doesn't make me blink and neither does plucking so hope i get used to this soon. On the plus side (i tried it on my forearms lol) my arms are lovely and silky smooth today just like waxing results, if i can grin and bear it i may become a convert...will try my thighs later and let you know how i get on. Eventually I want to be able to do underarms and bikini line (i sound machocistic!) but will be MSE as I won't be dishing out on waxing treatments.
I love epilating:j I do my legs, underarms and ocassionally my bikini line. If I'm in a hurry or CBA then I sometimes just use nair hair removal cream on my thighs and epilate the rest. I won't lie though it can be painful initially but I promise you it gets so much easier the more you know it. I've posted on MSE before about being reduced to tears the first few times I did my underarms to the extent I had to get my OH to finish doing them for me:eek::rotfl: Now I do my underarms without blinking an eyelid. I love how smooth the skin is left feeling, and the fact you don't get horrible stubbly regrowth like you do with shaving. I tend to epilate about every 8-10 days although the more you epilate the less hair grows back and what does grow back is much much lighter in appearance. This has been a godsend to me as I have very fair skin with dark hairs:( I dropped my trusty epilator down the stairs at easter and have resorted back to a combination of shaving/using nair and I am hating it. Its just not for me anymore and seems so much more hassle in comparison. My old epilator which was fab was this one, bought with points from Boots when it was half price yonks ago. I'm planning on buying this one to replace it though- i'm being greedy and hoping for a good points event to lessen the sting of buying it although I don't think I can hold out much longer.:starmod:C'est la vie:starmod:0 -
Ola,
Re the epilator question LIR, when mine acts like that I clean it with it's wee hard brush. Also, make sure you're not lotioning up before hand as that clogs the tweezers. Beware of pushing too hard btw - ouchy more likely!
P.s I didn't wince! The pain does lessen! I'll go into a bit more detail re the bikini line now I know ya'll won't kick me off the thread for vulgarity!
Been doing a tidy job of my bikini line for a while now. Took a bit of patience to get past the edges. I usually go for a more extreme groom IYKWIM now I'm past the "Holy carp this is excrutiating!" stage. If I can't be @ssed, I Veet btwbetter than shaving if you're planning on ep-ping again as it doesn't make the hair so course and cause it to be more painful to remove.
Sit in aforementioned unflattering postion (no OHs present would be preferable unelss you're very close!) and pull the area you're about to do taut (as taut as poss without hurting), then glide over the edges, slowly working your way across. As LIR says, doing a bit then rolling backwards can help desensitize. You can also numb the area with a cold flannel - sexy! - however if you warm the skin the pores open and the hair comes out easier. See what works best for you. You will build up a tolerance - the hair grows back much thinner and lighter so it comes out more and more easily. I have a few patches on my legs where nothing grows at all now! I usually ep after a shower/bath as the pores have opened up and I find this works well for me.
Re underarms, it's pretty much the same - I stick my elbow in the air and push it against a wall so the skin is taut without me pulling it. When I first ever had my underarms waxed after shaving for years I bled some: I find epilating hurts less because it doesn't pull out so many hairs - the wee ones stay there.
In all cases, just take it slowly and calmly. If it's hurting a bit then give it a gentle rub with your hand. I'd suggest continuing with the same area because otherwise it will hurt more if you leave it for a few minutes. Obv if it's really sore wait for it to heal for a few days - this is fairly rare though newbies! After each time always moisturise with a light lotion (as said before, I add a drop of tea tree as my skin likes this, I suppose you could use lavender too).
This is taking me back to the first time I investigated my mom's epilator... wow. Did it sting. I was appauled at the ferocity! Now, it's a MS blessing and it feels fine. Plus you stay smooth for yonks.
Wow, didn't realise I had that much to say about the wonderful world of ep-ing!!0 -
Need_a_break wrote: »Hi all, very quick post to say ive been to the body shop:eek:. But i was really good and came out with a sample of the vitamin c/ revitalising serum, cause think i do actually need to start using one despite my resistance to adding another facial product to my morning routine. Will see how i get on, anyone used it??
Nabxx
I'd be interested to hear any feedback on this as well. I got the vitamin C moisturiser on the last BS glitch and its smells lovely though I haven't started using it yet as I'm using the Aloe one instead. I like the fact its a radiance boosting moisturiser as well which I didn't realise when ordering.:starmod:C'est la vie:starmod:0
