no you should not because you were just unfortunate with your car..it is not a common problem. it is different story with rover and their headgaskets which is a very common problem....just search mse forum to realise how common it is.
Heres an 05 Focus with gearbox problems - and it seems quite common too judging by the detailed responses -

Lets start a thread kicking fords...0 -
The engine is a k series -hence the name kv6.0

right we bought a car from a garage today at about 16.30 - hubby went to drive to work and...... 15 miles from home has broken down on the motorway - black smoke and the engine has stopped.
what rights do we have for a refund or anything?
on the drive home there was no problems - the sale guy said that they had had it on the engine diagnostics and there was no problems what so ever and it was running sweet as anything.
I am going to ring them tomorrow but i wanted to know where we stood on this.
I think i can help you out. Did you check out for the genuine motor parts and bills? Did the dealer give you any warranty or after sale services? If yes then kindly contact the dealer for your problems or if he is unresponsive then you can head to consumer forum for help.0 -

From an engineering reliability point of view, this is not good as the bolts stretch and eventually, the head gasket begins to wheeze.
Go back to your engineering text books, go to the chapter on "virtual work" and see why this is an excellent engineering solution, used on most high pressure or high load machinery
The other thing is that on K series fuel injected engines,it creates issues with air leaks which upsets the fuel injection system.
They also used to use a plastic air throttle body which warped and caused fuel injection issues. This was later replaced by an alloy air throttle body.
Problem found, problem sorted. It could have been that the plastic air throttle body was fine in some cars, but due to the complex nature of heat transfer, it wasn't fine in your car!
I'm not a motor engineer (that's clear) but i know these things having !!!!!!ed about with a K16 engine/fixing/troublshooting etc..i taught myself all about fuel injection on the k series. Had to. The local garage would have had to spend so much time on it that i would have been bankrupt...my advice..get rid:eek:
Look for a mk3 Golf instead.
Not sure why I decided to point out the red above, there is so much technically inaccurate information on this board, that if someone was to go through it and correct everything, it would be a full time job.0 -

I had a ford take 2 gearboxes in 3 months.
Should i advocate people never buying another ford?
Yes. My Renault had to have a new aircon compressor. This makes all Renaults totally useless. In fact, because of this all French cars are useless, reinforced by the fact that I used to have a Peugeot that needed a new brake servo. We regularly see such ridiculous statements on this forum. You and I might as well join in.0
