Bought a car from a used car sales garage and within 25 miles it has blown up

No offence, but buying a car with zero research, no hpi check (they advertise on tv you know?) and no mechanical knowledge is going to end in tears.
It is a trader though, so I'm reckoning you can get it repaired or even get a refund as it's supposed to be merchantable quality or summat. Your receipt doesn't mention trade sale or sold as seen does it?
Did you wonder why they dropped the price £700 to get a sale?0 -
The K series engines are notorious for premature head gasket failures. It was just another nail in the coffin for a brand already seen by many as shoddy and unreliable, repeatedly mocked by Mr. Clarkson etc. etc.
The 2.5 V6 ISNT a K series engine. Get your facts straight before you criticise something you clearly know nothing about.0 -

The K series is notorious.
Why? simply becuase the whole engine from sump to cylinder head is actually clamped together with long bolts rather than the normal arrangement of bolting sub assemblies to eachother.
From an engineering reliability point of view, this is not good as the bolts stretch and eventually, the head gasket begins to wheeze.
The other thing is that on K series fuel injected engines,it creates issues with air leaks which upsets the fuel injection system.
They also used to use a plastic air throttle body which warped and caused fuel injection issues. This was later replaced by an alloy air throttle body.
I'm not a motor engineer but i know these things having !!!!!!ed about with a K16 engine/fixing/troublshooting etc..i taught myself all about fuel injection on the k series. Had to. The local garage would have had to spend so much time on it that i would have been bankrupt...my advice..get rid:eek:
Look for a mk3 Golf instead.
Oh For !!!!s Sake, please do your homework before mouthing off.
The 2.5 v6 isnt a K series engine.
Head gaskets go on older cars. Not nice, and the dealer MUST sort this out, BUT not unique to Rovers.0 -
If you have had the car for a very short period of time then you can refuse it .
You need to contact Consumer direct to find out how to do this officially .0 -

I was responding to the "no wonder Rover went belly up" comment rather than talking about this specific vehicle.
And to be frank, unless that car has been seriously abused, for it go go on an eight year old car is still a damn poor show really0 -

Take the car back and surrender it to them - telling the most senior person you can get a hold of that you want to formally reject the car.
Write a letter stating that you want to do this referring to the Sale of Goods Act - hand a copy of this to the person you speak to.
Post a copy of this recorded to the same person or to the manager referring to the letter you gave to Mr(s) XYZ.
Wait for a response.
Worked for me :T0 -
I had a ford take 2 gearboxes in 3 months.
Should i advocate people never buying another ford?
no you should not because you were just unfortunate with your car..it is not a common problem. it is different story with rover and their headgaskets which is a very common problem....just search mse forum to realise how common it is.0 -
