    Two things,

    1, there isn't any jobs.

2, there isn't any new builds.

I was in Ireland just over 3 years ago. I heard on the radio that folk were in desperately trying to buy over priced new build stuff. The whole thing is a shame.

I should imagine that there is actually a substantial number of flats which are unoccupied and un loved - I can see a number of blocks being razed to the ground over the next 25 years as people scramble out of flats into proper housing.

Apparantly some of the buildres here have created their own housing associations on the quiet (tenancy only for over 25 and working etc) to fill up empty flats and small houses on the mixed estates to help the larger houses sell.

Don't supposes that would work on sprawling estates of 5 bed, 3 bath exec detatched :) Beautiful though aren't they, in a depressingly samey surburbia style way, how much are they for sale for now? Thought i saw '215' in one window- is that 215k euros? Whats the current £ equvilent...?

What is so different here to Ireland then? I mean if there were loads of houses here for sale for half the price they were selling 2 years previous, theyd be snapped up, by either genuine buyers, if not certainly BTLs? I heard Ireland have already had their public sector axe swing, and big spending cuts made.....?

They must find a use for them. Demolishing them would be a crime....

Can see the headlines.... chav scum given 5 bedroom luxury houses...

...do Ireland have chav scum, in these places (its rural isn't it)? Maybe they can move the deprived from Dublin down there. If they run out of deprived Dubliners to move there then they can take some Brummies, stop them moving down here :D

How are you MrsE? Like your new avvy.... think I need a new one.... hows public sector in Surrey? Waiting (and worrying) for your job cuts or you had plenty already?

Had one re-org just gone. Childrens isn't too bad because its an area they can't cut too much (or its one they would be loath to cut). But all casual/temps are gone-going & their is a recruitment "chill".
There is no fat left to trim off my area - honestly. Our work loads are like sweat shop days in the private sector.

... why demolish perfectly good houses? What's that all about then?

Who do you reckon we could ship over from here to fill them up?
