I bought an xbox after originally going in for a ps2 like somebody else. As it wasn;t what I had originally intended I ummed and ahhed whether or not to keep it and then when I found out they were reduced to £10 I decided it had to go back. I thought that rather than try to outright buy it myself I would return it and then get my sister to immediately go in and buy it back.

What actually happened was that as soon as two other assistants saw what I was returning they actually started squabbling about who was going to buy it while all the time the three assistants tried not to let me know what the new price was (although of course I knew thanks to MSE:beer: ). When the assistant processing my refund handed my cards back I handed them straight back and said I wanted to buy it again. I think they were all quite impressed with my cheek TBH (I know I was) but having seen the way they were talking I knew that once that xbox went all the way over the counter it would be lost. I don't think I'll be going back in there for a while either.

I think thats great!! I would have LOVED to see the assistant's faces!

They may have them showing as in stock, but I went to both Castle Mall and Chapelfields on Monday, and neither had any in. There was a lovely empty space in the glass cabinet in Chapefields complete with price tag of £99.
I picked up a couple of Sony Walkman MP3 players (originally £89 each, down to £10), a Shuffle speaker thing (£5 down from £35) and another Philips Shoqbox (£10 down from something like £70) today. All items were still marked up at the original prices. The cashier looked shocked when the £89 Sony MP3 player scanned at £10. So much for Norwich having nothing left, which is what I was told on the phone. Castle Mall definitely had a few bits and bobs. Nice empty space where the 1GB Ipods used to live, though...and a nice £99 SEL still visible.

well, I went to my local Boots at Colliers Wood (South London) and the very nice woman went to check the stock room and came back with an X Box bundle. She and her colleagues stood open-mouthed when it came up at £10!!

Asked if they had anymore but alas, no....
  • Guys.........sorry to add a post regarding my good fortune BUT my OH has just purchased (under my instruction I might add - LOL) an iPod Photo 40gb for......a TENNER, yes £10!!!!

A few weeks ago I was looking for iPod accessories and noticed the above at the bottom of a glass cabinet that contained the new iPod range. Anyway, it was only the other day that I realised it might possibly be reduced, so I asked the OH if she could call into the store after work.

Low and behold it was still there, but wouldn't scan and SA was quoting the original shelf price of £249.99 (which couldn't be right as it is a discontinued model). OH got the SA to call Customer Services, but they said it was down to the store managers discretion as to whether it was reduced. OH then asked, whilst CS were still on the phone, as to why the item could not be scanned through the till. CS gave the SA the correct code and............what do you know £10.00. Apparrently the SA's face was like thunder !!!

Morale of the story - KEEP LOOKING, THERE ARE STILL BARGAINS HIDING OUT THERE !!!!

    Good Luck !

I'm sure no one minds you posting your good fortune, as long as you supply the barcode ;)
  • Totally agree, Godspeed...what's the barcode or item number?

  • Hiya folks,

Just wanted to say thanks to the OP who said they returned their xbox and purchased it again.

I've just done this today at Boots in Dundee (main one in the High Street). I originally purchased it on the 23rd August.

I told the sales assistant at the photo counter exactly what I wanted to do and why. Ok I didn't say I knew they were only £10 now but did say I had heard they had been reduced again. She was brilliant and did it no problems, laughing as she did so for me. My box was unopened or rather all was still sealed apart from the origninal outer brown box, but she didn't even check this so the folks who have still got one at £75 and have opened it, it might be worth chancing your luck if you still have the outer box.

If anyone lives near me and needs the outer box to do this i'd quite happily meet them and supply it.

A great bargain which originally cost me the equivalent of 52p to start with. £70 of pigsback vouchers, paid £5 cash but got £4.48 back in boots points oh and a £5 skin care voucher which makes me £4.48 in profit when i think about it at the original purchase.

    Thanks to all for this.
