HOW TO SPEED UP A SLOW PC OR INFECTED PC. (a mini guide)

Hi there experts!
I am interested in the following system on offer by Ankermann PC
http://ankermann-pc.shops4ecommerce.de/shop/sp.php?artnr=85320&pr=NTI5LjAw
This company has been trading in Amazon and ebay for at least 12 months and charging GBP for their systems and delivery. All their systems are with 2 years warranty (under EU law).:D
However if I order from their company direct, they are charging euros instead of GBP, and, the delivery charge is cheaper as well [29 euro per delivery rather than £33 (ebay) - £35 (Amazon UK)].
Has anybody purchased any system from them in the past?
What will be the catch e.g. lack of consumer protection when things go wrong?:question:
Please advise.
Thanks in advance.
you are better to start your own thread for this ....

.....one more lowly computer will have a home this christmas instead of being thrown out in the bin via the window.:D:rudolf:
Exactly the same way my desktop was heading before I was directed to this article. Followed the steps and the PC is a completely different beast. Many thanks to the OP for posting this guide - invaluable.0 -
I find CCleaner a bit of a big stick.
Glaris Utilities is a good alternative, give it a try it's free also.
Security Essentials 2.0 is as good as any free antivirus program you can get. If you feel the need to pay for your antivirus, you cant get any better than Nod32 IMHO....
Avoid Kasperski and Norton like the plague....
All that said, most modern viruses/trojans etc are installed by the user and bypass the antivirus software anyway, the best way to avoid them is to be vigilant, while web browsing, opening mail and downloading files.
Definitely three backups of important files......
OH and there is always the possibility that you HDD is failing if your computer starts running slowly.
If you followed this guide to the letter and your computer still runs slow, right click on 'My Computer' then click manage and check your system log for disk errors......To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
Brilliant post OP! Thank you very much - you have saved me hours of frustration!0

4. Download avast 5 free
5. Uninstall all your security software - rapport/avg/trend/norton/mcafee/mse/avira/comodo/bitdefender/adaware/spybot/superantispyware/zonealarm/checkpoint/forcefield/personal firewalls etc, if you have windows defender installed, either uninstall it, or "disable windows defender" (google it). Some of this software tends to leave remnants behind, eg norton, avg, mcafee, use the norton/avg/mcafee removal tool to clean this up.
Good instructions but does it have to be Avast 5 you need to download for your AV, I know it is a personal choice but don't forget the others which are rated highly as well ie.Avira and MSE which you have lumped into your Uninstall all section.
Also Superantispyware which does have it's uses can be downloaded as a portable version onto a usb memory stick and run from that instead of having it loaded onto your computer/laptop.
The other bit of advice is NOT to have more than one AV on your system at the same time.0 -
Avast 5 free is recommended for various reasons, the most important in the context of this thread is it isn't bloated like the rest, has fast scanning, and uses far less resources, in particular ram, which on old machines is the main cause of slowdowns. My preference for a free secondary manual scanner would be Malwarebytes.
Avira and MSE may be ok free alternatives, but if you want speed try avast.

very interesting, that graph. Can't say I've ever noticed avira peaking that high though.....what were the test conditions, they weren't listed??
..and it depends on speed of what - you may remember some months back I posted about running avast, avira and mse back-to-back on my desktop. Ping times were avira fastest, then avast, and mse was pitiful. Gamers may want to take note..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0
