I am trying to establish if my slow internet is caused by my PC (as Sky suggest......) or Sky (as I suggest.......).

On the basis that it would do no harm to look at the PC I thought I'd try your suggestions but have fallen at the 1st hurdle. On Task Manager Performance I can see the physical memory, but not commit charge total or peak. The other options I have are CPU Usage, Kernel Memory and System. There is also a Resources Monitor, but opening this does not show the commit charge total or peak either :(.

    Help please!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I am still slowly losing space on my PC, decided to wait until it goes down alot more, then I should be able to see where it is going, as at the moment I cannot see for the life of me anything that is taking up more room than it should. Pleased i've come up with a solution!

Have you tried deleting all but the last System Restore Checkpoint. These files can take up a lot of space if you don't delete periodically.

Run for cover, as I speak of needing to come here again...things are so slow again, that when putah suddenly goes on strike without warming[often get box saying Plug-in has become unresponsive, do I want to cancel? What is this?], typing will suddenly be[I've counted]16 letters behind keyboard strike. V. difficult to write cohesively. Will start the procedure again, but the original rpt prob. re:Chrome pprob po-ups and rptd loss of stuff worked on for hours, despite all saving = kick something hard fury/hopelessness.
I'm needing to ebay intensively atm - wipeout of listing prep on turbolister and direct makes for real despair. I spend hours on research - often necessary for my bits.
    Will post logs.

  • Have you tried MIcrosoft Fixit. This is a free product from Microsoft and examines many areas (one at a time ) on your system.

Suggest you try the performance ones first.

Despite what it says you do not need a Live user id to use it.

    It's worth a try.

I'm going to have a look at somebody's laptop but where we are meeting may not have an internet connection. I have all the required s/w (for cleanup) on a USB stick but guess I'll have problems without an internet connection e.g. making sure Malwarebytes uses the latest data. Is this worth trying?
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

You can update your own & then copy rules.ref & database.conf from yours to the flash drive & then copy them over into the correct repsective folders on the other PC.

    XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Configuration\database.conf

    Vista and Win7:
    C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

    C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Configuration\database.conf

Just doubled my RAM from 1GB (2 x215MB )to 2Gb (2x 1GB) and it's like having a new PC. It use to take me 5 mins to boot up and get online- it now takes a minute, I can't believe it! I will buy another 2GB and really give it the beans.
