HOW TO SPEED UP A SLOW PC OR INFECTED PC. (a mini guide)
Comments

Having only 1GB of memory on my OH laptop which I'm trying to speed up, I've got as far as the Cleanmem stage, and I've downloaded and installed Cleanmem and gone to C>Windows>Tasks and "clean system memory task" is not listed. The OS is Vista Home Basic.
Any ideas?0 -
Go to Control Panel>Scheduled Tasks If Cleanmem is not there then open Add Scheduled Task and add it from there.0

There was no Scheduled Tasks within control panel, however I found it by searching for taskschd.msc.
Looking in there Cleanmem is already set up, and then it gets really confusing.
I've looked under the Conditions tab and nothing is currently ticked, so I'm not sure when Cleanmem will actually run.
Under Settings it's got " task to be run on demand", but I'd have thought something should perhaps be set under Conditions.
Perhaps I should tick the "Start the task only if the computer is idle for:" ?0 -
Open Clean System Memory>Schedule>Advanced>Change time to 5mins>OK>OK exit0

Couldn't find that. However double clicking on Cleanmem within the Task Scheduler gave me a pop-up where I could edit the trigger and change the schedule from 15 minutes to 5 minutes, so hopefully that's achieved the same result.
I have a techie background (not PCs) but this is tortuous!
Thanks for your help.0 -

Didn't ever try Cleanmem but I presume it is a Memory Optimizer sounds like heavy going to set it up.
I use the Memory Optimizer from the Glary Utilities suite and it seems to work well because you can easily set it to monitor the memory and it only kicks in when it is needed (not at set time intervals). There is a free version but I don't know how well that works as I have the pro version. Give away of the day sometimes features it and you can get the pro version free when they do.

Hi, I am following the instructions in post 1.
I am not very techie, so I think I'll need some hand-holding

Well, there are so many free ways to speed up a slow PC, you can give them a try. Most of them are effective.
1) Remove Unwanted Programs.
2) Delete Any Clutter / Junk Files.
3) Clean Out The Registry.
4) Disable automatic startup of some programs.
5) Defragment your system.0 -
First of all scan your pc with an updated AntiVirus. After scanning i would recommend to use Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC2012, its among the most popular products used on the internet to speed up the computer and fix computer freezes, computer lags and similar issues.
