Morning all. A quick weekend up date and to be honest it isn't good news.

Went to Mr S yesterday to top up fruit, veg, bread, cheese etc and ended up spending £43  This has included bits for an impromptu party tomorrow and replenishing the baking stores as I have been requested to bake a victoria sponge and muffins for the 16 people attending.

So this takes me £5.92 over budget and I will need more fresh stuff to get through to payday next Friday. Oh well at least I know what I'm spending (and what on) and that is a big improvement. My major expense is fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and milk. We eat small amounts of meat but even this will need restocking next week. Looks like next month is shaping up to be tight as well. I might have to rethink the budget yet again :o

    Enjoy the sunny weekend, K

Yesterday I went to Mr S and spent £6.06 on milk, bananas and coffee. DH will be going again on sunday for some more milk, tin toms and a few other bits we need (not sure what though yet ;)), so we're hoping this weeks shopping will be very cheap. We have plenty in the freezer to keep us going for the next week at least.

I think next Sat/Sun (29/30th) shop will be from the June budget as most of it will be eaten in June :D and that means that we should be on budget for May :j

Logged on as wanted to ask a question. I have just made some hummus, with chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic and water. (read it could be frozen so have made a big batch). On licking the spoon after putting in the tahini (seseame paste) i thought it tasted quite similar to peanut butter. I wondered if anyone had made hummus with peanut butter and how it had gone. not sure how much peanut butter is - the tahini was 2.82 in the healthfood shop.
Hya poppy, I quite often make hummus (or houmous, there's loads of ways to spell it!), and don't use tahini at all!! I sometimes add sesame seeds (often dry-fried to "toast" them), so than there is a taste of sesame. I suppose you could add a bit of sesame oil instead/as well. I want it as fat-free as possible, and it is fine. Not even thought about using pnut butter...hate the stuff!! I also add chopped up parsley somethimes, usually after whizzing everything together. Hope this helps.

Getting dangerously close to my GC target...only £3.14 to last us to the end of the month....can see us going over somehow!! :( Mind you, I did reduce the total by £50 and forgot DS2 is home for half the month (study leave, AS exams and 1/2 term)

Off out to the garden again...hope it has cooled down a bit!

    Have a greatweekend everyone.

Well, the final shop of the month has been done for me and I'm under budget by about £10.
I will need extra milk mid week but that's about it really.
June will be a 5 week month for me so I'll up the budget to £225 (£45 a week).

Little spend today at Mr T for some extra salad stuff, decided its too hot to do anything but have salad today and didn't have enough salad stuff left. Not doing bad though I've got £49.18 to last until the 27th, only have 5 days to go and 3 of them will be NSD's, main shop day tomorrow but will just need fruit, veg, milk and some baking supplies.

Not spent anymore since I last posted.

The lamb was really nice, did it in the slow cooker with carrots and red onion. Added some gravy, quince jelly, some mint and a spoonful of brown sugar.

Served it with boiled potatoes first day and it did three of us (DH had the rest of the savoury rice) and then today I chopped up the left over potatoes into chunks and stirred it through the rest of the lamb and we had a stew.

Was really nice even though it didn't particulary suit the weather.

Enough left for one meal so thats in the freezer.

    Might go out tomorrow.

Will use up a packet of bacon out of fridge and lift some sausages out of the freezer for brunch.

    Hello all,

Haven't been here for a while, as life has been a bit complicated - don't need to go into too much detail, but DH is now in hospital (being assessed in Dept of Mental Health for the Elderly).

So I am just getting round to updating my sig.

Had grocery spends on 20th (£6.31) and today (£5.94), so must deduct £12.25 from my GC balance. This leaves me still £24.91 under budget, but I will have the milk bill to pay (about £15 I think). In which case, that's about £10 to last 9 days - a challenge to say the least, but I still have lots of stuff in the store cupboard.

    We'll see!
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!
