Well DH did the shopping last night and stuck to the list very well, just £26.10 spent from our first week this month :j hope that we carry on like this but i need to buy a sack of dog food later this week so a large chunk of the budget will be spent there, we still have some cat food left from last week so we`re ok atm.
Thanks to MrsM, Rosieben & Pink for keeping us all going with all your hard work.:A
Good luck for May peeps
I`ll nip off and update my siggy.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Finally posted April spend of £166.56 :T
Budget was £300 but I jiggled pots around a bit by taking out pet food, takeaways etc and grocery spend budget is now £200 per month. Other stuff has its own budgets so I will be better informed of just where the money goes.
Thank you all for the support and to the wonderful people who keep the forum running smoothly. You know who you are

Hello everyone (shy wave). I’ve been lurking for a few weeks but I really think it’s time I joined in properly. My budget will be £240 for the calendar month for me, DH, DS(4), DD(2), two dogs and three cats. I'm including all food, toiletries, household and alcohol although there has been precious little of that lately!
The budget is about what I’ve been spending for the last couple of months so it’s obviously achievable but I’d like to stick to that without the current feelings of deprivation and try some new meals ‘cos meal planning has shown how boring our menu has got lately. On that basis, I shall go back to the beginning of this thread and choose at least one new meal to try each week.

starting off with 3 little shops making 1 big shopping day today. Trying to get everything I need on one day, so went to Alsi, Iceland and Morrisons and spent in total £47/£120 budget.MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987
EMFD was Feb 32  NOW Dec 2013 its Dec 2016
MF new target Dec 16 REACHED!! :j0 -
I am up to £48.10/£450 already . This was co-op 70% off reduced bits that I couldn't resist, fruit and my favourite butchers for six lots of mince and sausages. I have another £130 at Mr S for the monthly big shop due later this week - this is mainly pet food and household stuff that will get is through to June. In theory I now have the meal plan filled, and the household stuff bought, I have two 'free' veg boxes, and then I am swapping to the local £11 scheme so surely even I can manage to come in under budget.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0

:wave:Hello to al the new people on here. I hope you all do well in your GC.
Hope everyone has or is enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend. Gone really cold here and have had to put the central heating back on!
Had two more NSD and spent yesterday making Malt loaf, and Lemon drizzle cake which when cold were sliced up and put into the freezer for when reqd with a cuppa:coffee:
Dinner was chicken casserole done in SC with dumplings and some cabbage that needed using up. Have just put the left overs in fridge to have for lunch tomorrow. Tea will just be some ham sandwiches and maybe some soup first.
Noticed that there was more food in the freezer than originally thought as when I was putting the cakes in found some salmon steaks, minced beef, crumpets, shin beef, pork, prawns (for DH and DS not me as don’t like them) along with some other things I knew about.:) We have two freezers, one in house and one in the shed and to be honest I hardly ever go into the shed one but just tell DH what to get out or what to put into it. Hopefully this will help with the GC this month although to be honest I do not want to run the freezers to low as I like having them full - just in case! What of I have no idea - W.W.3, a siege, a swarm of locusts, or just being unable for any reason to get to the shops.
Have updated my signature to take into account the NSD

Hi everyone & thanks to MRs Mc, Rosieben & pink winged for maintaining the thread. Well I think I have rather worryingly spent over £200 already. My month actually starts on the 26th of the preceeding month now, as that is OH's new pay day. I did some shopping around this time & was waiting for May's challenge to be set up & have done lots of shopping since. Things then got really busy here & I did pop on to update signature a few days ago & have just added on latest shops but still not 100% sure if I have actually added things on twice. Oh well, lesson learnt to be more organised mext month.
I have been all over the place the last week - Mr T's, Aldi, Lidl, Co Op, Farm Foods, Morrisons & Sainsburys!
I do have lots in the freezer still & cupboards aren't bad although think I will need to buy something for dinner tomorrow like Hoisin sauce or something to have with the beef that's left over from dinner today.
Good luck for May everybody1Grocery aim £450pm.Spent £519 August, £584 July, £544 June, £541 May, £549 April, £517 March, £517 Feb,£555 Jan, £573 Dec, £465Nov, £561Oct, £493Sept, £426Aug,£496 Jul, £528Jun, £506May,£498April, £558 March, £500Feb, £500 Jan, £490 Dec, £555 Nov,£566 Oct, £505Sept, £450Aug, £410 July, £437 June, £491 May, £471 April, £440 March, £552Feb, £462Jan0 -
Hi everyone
AAAAAAHHHHHHH :mad::mad::mad:
TheBees are back after a few months of half hearted attempts this year but now we SERIOUSLY have to watch our spending. Unfortunately DH has been told there are redundancies in his department and there is a very high risk he could lose his job by July. So our income could drop and we could be forced to survive on a much lower income than we have been used to just like many other people on this forum.
Step 1 is for DH to fight for his job!
Step 2 is to stop spending money on things we don't really need.
Step 3 is to rejoin the grocery challenge for May with a target of £375 please.
We are going to see if we can just spend on groceries and fuel this month. We don't need any clothes, shoes, stuff for the garden, household things etc.. This month is an experiment to see how little we can spend and to prove to ourselves that we can manage on my wages for a while if we have to.
Any advice would be gratefully recieved.
