  • Good morning everyone,

well went shopping yesterday and spent more than I had planned to but that was mainly due to the fact that I had forgotten that I needed soap powder and that cost an extra £10. Just had new washing machine fitted, I have been without one for a couple of weeks, so I am now washing everything that is not nailed down. So going through lots of washing powder. Total was £51.34 pounds, but what I bought plus freezer and store cupboard ingredients should see me through most of the month with only a few shops for milk, fruit and veg, bread etc.

Fish pie was delicious, made from free fish given to me by my sister. She thought it was haddock but I think it was pollock, but it was very nice in the pie.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

    Hi

Update - no grocery spends yesterday (had coupons for free pizza and free chips so got them but that's it!). Went to Mr T for milk, fruit and veg today and spent a grand total of £6.76 (including some chocs for the girls and OH). Good start for me :D

Hope everyone else is having a good month so far :)

Hi, can I join too please?

£300 this month for food, drink and all household/baby stuff. That's for 2 adults, 1 toddler and a baby due this month. Possibly not the best time to start but I've been letting the food budget get out of control and with no job to go back to once maternity leave finishes I really need to sort it out!

    Thanks x

Hi everyone - typical Bank Holiday weather, rained all night and been really heavy today, looks like November out there.

looie & huxley - I notice that you both mentioned that you have allotments, how long have you had them and what sort of things do you find are easy to grow or you have a lot of success with? I've only had mine since December and it was quite overgrown so I've spent the last months digging over and arranging beds etc to the way I want. There were a lot of existing Fruit trees/bushes which I have retained and looking forward to those crops later in the year, apart from that I have so far planted potatoes, onions and strawberries.:D Got loads of seeds/beans etc etc germinating in the Greenhouse ready to plant up there when the time is right.

franby64 - I see you grow a lot in your Garden, I have done for several years now and loved it so much and started to run out of space which was why I put my name down for the allotment. Lets hope that with the Garden and the Allotment this year that it will help keep the Grocery budget down and at the same time we will eat fresher fruit/veg.

Dinner tonight is Roast Lamb and all the trimmings, planning to make a crumble for Pud as have some jars of fruit that were a Xmas gift still to use up.:o With the weather the way it is today I think the family will appreciate a Crumble.:)

As there are so many new faces here I thought it might be useful to post a few links

Thriftlady's great Meal building blocks for the freezer is worth a look, loads of good ideas there.

and some useful links here for meal plan ideas

    Check out the Complete cooking collection which also includes links to other OS 'Complete .. Collections' - Recipes; Menu Plans; Breadmaking; Jams Chutneys and other preserves; Pizza; Slow Cooker;

and don't forget the GC recipe list on the front page of this thread

hope this will be of use to someone ;)

Not too bad a start - £12.99 at Mr T. Bought seasonal veg bag which has onions, leek, swede, parsnip and carrots in it for £1.99 so think that was better than buying loose. Hadn't planned on the leek but will make leek and potato soup. Ideally for the cold wet bank holiday.

Picked up half price garden lights and was good and put them back as don't really need them. :A
