Thanks
Also going via rpoints which offer 6000 points = £60, all I get is the Boots voucher linkIf freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0 -
I took out this offer back in March with Cannons, didn't know I'd have to pay £25 to cancel ?! or that I could have got a massive £115 on quidco. Oh well you live and learn0

Hi everyone. Does anyone know how to benefit from this if you've already got gym membership with Holmes Place? It would work out as a saving of £150 in the first year for me not including money back from quidco so it's still worthwhile doing I reckon. Also, sorry for the continued questions, does anyone know whether that £25 membership fee is for peak time membership or off peak membership? I wouldn't be able to make off peak times.
Sorry for all the questions and thanks for your help. I'm off to research it a bit more so if I find the answers anyway I'll come back and update you all!!Debt Free Nerd No. 89, LBM: April 2006, Debt at highest (Sept 05): £40,939.96

The T&Cs only say that it does not apply to existing contracts (i.e. with the gym). This would suggest that you cannot apply the new rates/subsidy to your current gym membership. If, however, you were to cancel, whilst you would have been a member before (which would often be excluded in such offers) there is no mention of it precluding rejoining here. This would indicate that you could cancel and reapply through the Pru/Quidco means and benefit from the savings.
Just spotted:
Please note:
PruHealth members can only hold one PruHealth approved gym membership at any one time at PruHealth subsidised rates. If you are an existing Holmes Place member, you will need to cancel this membership and rejoin as a PruHealth member, providing you are outside the term of your Holmes Place contract. A one-off £25 activation fee applies.
I was a member of Holmes place until I was sent abroad (coming back soon so will probably rejoin) and I had a £40 cancellation fee if I wanted to cancel at any time other than at the end of a 12 month period - this may have been because it was corporate membership though - it is worth factoring this into the calculations.
In terms of whether it is peak or off-peak membership, it doesn't say. The fact that it is silent would suggest that it is off-peak as it is a cheaper way of them fulfilling their promise...would welcome comments from anybody that has directly asked/established this.[STRIKE]Something witty[/STRIKE]0 -
This is the first time I have used Quidco - it hasn't come up in my 'tracked transactions'. Is there anything I can do about that?0

Some more thoughts/information:
Strangely the Ts & Cs elsewhere on the site say the offer ends in Feb 2006 (which is different from what is said re ending at end of August 2006) which may complicate matters...
"Standard gym membership at Cannons or Holmes Place health clubs for only £25 a month – saving up to £61 every month (based on Moorgate Holmes Place).
Plus, join before 28 February and one policy member gets six months' free - saving up to £565"
The "saving up to £61 every month (based on Moorgate Holmes Place)" (£61 + £25) adds up to £86 which is the cost of OFF-PEAK MEMBERSHIP at Holmes Place Moorgate. This would suggest, as suspected above, that they are only offering off-peak.
Given that this is old (note the Feb deadline again) it is possible (and likely given that we are in a new financial year) that the Moorgate rates have gone up and the savings quote is therefore misleading.
But, as you will see below, it seems that you can "upgrade" your membership and pay extra if, for example, you want to be able to use those 4 excluded gyms (i.e Broadgate, Mayfair etc) or want to be linked to the other clubs. This would suggest to me that you would probably be paying more for peak membership (worth factoring in)...see more info on Holmes Place offer below (from Pru website):

I actually took this out a week ago - not done the health club thing as I'm stuck with another health club for a couple of months still, but I will do soon enough.
EGG
It's worth pointing out if you sign up via egg (if you have an egg card), you get £100 back on your card (not immediately, later on in the year). You don't get the boots vouchers, so I did this.
Also in the joining pack it does mention if you're already a gym member at the listed gyms you can cancel your gym membership and rejoin through pru (you pay pru for gym membership, not the gym club).
The other thing that is worth mentioning is that this is an unusual policy (in a good way!) - if you take the moritorium option, then you are excluded from cover for health issues that occured in the last 5 years, but unlike most other policys you my be covered for them after 2 years - EVEN if you have treatment for these problems within the 2 year exclusion period. There are exceptions to this of course, but still - this is a good improvement on most policies.
That's the main reason I went for this.

This is interesting (EGG Offer) as the web site currently says:
"Get covered by 30 September 2006 and, if you're an Egg Card or Egg Money customer, get £100 cash back paid in January."
This to me suggests that you don't even need to pay via the Egg Card if you have Egg Money (which, if I remember rightly is free and sometimes gives you a free sign-up bonus).
If this is correct and you are such a customer:
(a) sign-up via QuidCo (£115);
(b) get £100 by virtue of such custom; and
(c) also get the gym discounts (it says: "Save money on gyms and health clubs - helping you be healthy and get greater rewards.") This, to me suggests that all offers, whilst ostensibly not being open to combination, may, in fact be so.
Obviously a risk of one falling away but, to me, this looks like the only risk is that £100 Egg cash back (in January) which appears not to be contingent upon any other offer.
Just noticed that you need to sign-up through Egg to get the £100 cashback; thereby precluding QuidCo offer
I guess it makes sense - same as mortgages/pensions having a set amount put aside for an IFA, they have an amount set aside for internet referealls, in this case either for Egg or QuidCo.[STRIKE]Something witty[/STRIKE]0 -
Being crafty, I guess if you didnt really need the benefits of the policy, why not suggest you are healthier than you are, get the lower monthly premium and thereby the outlay is less?? Yes your policy would be invalidated but who would know? You would never claim anyway!
Not sure where you stand legally and Ive never done this but it's the way my mind works.0
