Suspicious Boiler Quote

To cut a long story short we're taking small claims court action about the boiler in our house and the defendant has supplied me with a new boiler quote, the only thing is I'm finding it hard to believe its 'true'! They haven't seen the property themselves (the gas fitter that is),

Is the boiler big enough for a 4 bedroom house also?

Remove existing boiler and fit Potterton Performa 24 Combi, including new flu, filling loop and programmer

£677.97

Break down of cost
Boiler £457
Labour £120
Vat £100.97

I've priced this myself and the boiler plus parts is nearly £700

Can any gas fitting comment if its achievable to fit it at this cost please,

Thanks in advance for your help

It can be done at that cost...(Have they fffed it up and are know offering to replace one at near cost ...?)

Not knowing room size, building construction, room heights, number of rads etc (Hard to say but maybe on the small size) You can get the boiler for that price and maybe all the other bits if you buy enough.....? That’s the cheapest installation cost I've seen.....? You would normally be looking 1100/1500 incl boiler… straight swap (London Price)

Strange your taking them them to court but there still happy to give you a quote makes no sense….

Our recent quotes for a replacement boiler were between £1400 -£1800 depending on which boiler we chose . Labour was around £500 of this. We have a three bedroom house.

It's a really long story, I submitted my claim of £1320 for a new boiler, 2 different quotes for about the same amount as well. The fitter exists on the gas safe register but can't find any adverts for him doing any work. I'd love to know where they got his details! All adds up to strange to me really

I should have stated its not the installers we claiming off its the people we bought the house off
  • That makes more sense they just want to pay less out…. Have you been in touch with the installer who gave the low quote are they willing to sign a contract for the fixed price they have given you?

Most good wholesalers have software that calculates the boiler, rad sizes needed etc if you give them the room sizes layout diagram and most do not charge for the service could help if going to court…

Apart from being an odd price the boiler would have to run 4 bedrooms, landing, bathroom, kitchen dining and living room. I think the boiler is well under spec myself anyway!

Does anyone know how I can check a VAT registration number also? Just want to check its linked to the fitter and not a company he works for or something.

a 24kw boiler will be enough for most homes in the uk.

A 24Kw combi is more than enough to heat your house, but in terms of HW I would go as far as to say it would be useless.

You need to have a quote for at least a 28Kw combi.

What is the boiler that is coming out? Another combi? I would say that realistically you would expect to be quoted around £1500-£1800 for a good boiler, controls and power flush.

To cut it short the house should have had a combi boiler but only had a weater heater, were claiming a boiler off them as they lied on the fixtures/fittings form. We've submitted 2 quotes to the court for £1460 and £1320, both for a Baxi 28he boiler, they've come back with this.

The quote would be to remove a water heater and install a combi boiler, that would be all. They are quoting £120 labor to do 2 days work effectively!
