Suspicious Boiler Quote

Comments

  • Well for a start a 24kw boiler will be too small and the price quoted is ridiculous, if you go ahead with this quote then you will in all likelyhood have two visits to the county courts this year.
Secondly, sizing the correct gas boiler for a property is not and never has been just guess work. Otherwise every property in the UK will have the same kw rated boiler. Four bedroom properties vary in size just like any other type of building. Only way to do this is to calculate what your hot water demand will be and size of radiators and the room sizes. There is no point in investing in an energy efficient boiler if your gas bill will be sky high due to the fact that you have had an undersized boiler. The flip side of this is, if the boiler is oversized it will never be energy efficient. So the best advise I can give is to get the correct size of boiler for your particular property, anyone just guessing should be shown the front door :D

    Hi

I think you'll find the quote is for a COMBI
    It's all in the detail.

Yep I understood quite clearly the post. Anyone who quotes £120 to fit a new boiler should set alarm bells ringing. And anyone who say's they'll install a 24kw in a four bedroom house should be shown the door. Unless of course the total room volume of this 4 bedroom house is no larger than a standard 1 - 2 bedroom flat. Best thing the original poster can do is to invite several other local companies to quote for the work. Then they will have a realistic idea of what should be installed and an average price for the work. Cheap does not always equal money saving especially if after 12 months you are having to go through the whole process yet again...:D

    Hi

Are you sure you understand? About the output I mean not the price.

  • I understand all about heating inputs / outputs / gas rates / heat loss calculations / dhw flow rates / pump flow rates.
Like I said in one of the replies I left, this is a money saving website if you are installing either an undersized or oversized boiler in a property then you are wasteing your money. If it is oversized for the property it will never be efficient and if it is undersized the boiler will die an early death. A farmer could tow a horse in a trailer on the back of a mini, he knows he will get to his destination but he wouldn't for the simple reason being he knows it's more efficient to use the right vehicle for the right job. If your happy with a dhw flow rate of 9.8 litres, higher than should be gas bills, regular repair bills as the 24kw boiler will be in overdrive mode constantly in a four bedroom house then so be it, but once you've had it installed start putting money away regularly for the next new boiler....:D

I would say that the average 4 bed house would need no larger than an 18Kw boiler.

I would personally range rate the 24Kw boiler down to this level to help keep it in condensing mode for the greatest amount of time.

But in your previous post you wanted to up it to 28kw and now you want to range rate a 24kw down to 18kw :T

Not just me, but SEDBUK as well as IDHEE. Google 'whole house boiler sizing'. If you've done your part L you should already know. And no where on these 2 sites will it tell you to take a stab in the dark pot luck guess. :D

You obviously have a problem with sizing combi boilers.

Combis are always sized for DHW use, then the ch is range rated to suit the radiators.

Hence why I recommend a 28Kw for DHW then range rate it down to about 18Kw, or whatever their radiators need.

Most combis will not produce the same amount of heat to radiators as they do to HW anyway.

Are you a trainee or desk jockey by any chance? You seem to have trouble reading and understanding what others have posted.

Or maybe you are just a wind up merchant!.
