i didnt think companys could take you to court besides government debts ie council tax and utillities? thats what they said at citizens advice they havnt got a leg to stand on?

Many many actions are commenced in the county courts every year. Certainly hundreds of thousands if not millions.

here is 10past6's advice to another OP

Where has the claim been issued from? (Which court, was it issued from Northampton Bulk Centre?) Yes County Court Bulk Centre, Northampton.

OK, within the court correspondence you’ll have received a login & password, use those to login on the website and acknowledge the claim, you must acknowledge the claim, failure to do so will result in a CCJ being awarded.

Once you’ve acknowledged the claim you’ll have a further 28 days to file a defence, this is where you need to decide what your defence is based on.

To assist, have you received a default notice / termination letter?

*I don’t always monitor the forums, if you reply and don’t receive adequate assistance, PM me to draw my attention to your thread*

Are they actually court letters? or just letters from the debt company wanting to know your finanaces?

I have had letters from that company for 3 years and owe a lot more than you and they have still not taken me to court.

I have had some very official looking letters & forms, cards saying i have missed a delivery & need to contact a number to arrange delivery. all sorts.

thanks for getting back to me :) there defiantly court letters 100% i have about 4 more days to accept defend or dispute the money owed.. argos did throw some charges on and it was £50 every time i missed a payment.. and i missed it 2 or 3 times before they handed the debt over to a range on companies. i think i have to go ahead with the court proceedings now... as i said im looking to defend the case.. i don't know how or why but i have been advised to as it will buy me time....

if anyone could give me any more advice before i go ahead and file the court papers it would be much appreciated...

No can can advise you whether you should admit/dispute/deny the debt, it has to be your decision, however, should you admit the debt, but dispute the amount, by default a CCJ will be registered against you, as stated, if paid within 28 days of judgement, it won't show on your credit file, once paid in full outside this period it will show as "satisfied"
