I just like drinking Pepsi Mx every now and then! Is that not ok anymore! It wasn't a thread intended to discuss my drinking habits, thats not really relevant, just to warn others to be more vigilant than I was! Of course I try to save money where I can, but there is little point buying something which I don't like to save a few pence.

P.S I can't stand cheap Asda coke, I prefer Pepsi and don't mind paying a little extra for it. Nothing to do with the name of the brand, just that I think pepsi max tastes nicer than the cheap alternative.

I quite agree, nothing really beats pepsi for me, i too have been fooled by the pepsi packaging.
But just incase you haven't tried it, lidl's freeway cola is a close second.

I sometimes wonder, considering that this site is MONEYSAVINGexpert, why people shop as they do!!

So - what do you do with your Pepsi Max?
    Do you drink it neat?
Or do you add something to it - vodka, etc, i.e, do you adulterate the taste?
Do you REALLY enjoy the taste?
Or is it just the overall taste of a fizzy drink that you need?
Do you try to save money?

I too shop at Asda and I've got into the habit (when I'm at home) of drinking coffee in the morning - and then sticking to coke thereafter.
In the evening I often add vodka or cider to my coke - the coke becomes a 'carrier' or mixer.

    I buy Asda coke at 17p for a 2 litre bottle - or 0.85p per 100 ml.
It's fine - goes down well - good and fizzy - no nasty aftertaste!!

Pepsi Max's best price is 9.5p per 100 ml.

    That's over 1100% more expensive!!

Is the taste that's so important or is it just the name that you pay for?

I sometimes wonder why people feel the need to keep questioning what people spend their money on, and feel the need to emphasise the fact with bold font and CAPITALS! This may be "Moneysaving expert" but nowhere does it state you need to be on the breadline to use it!

Well if we're going off topic ;) ...Aspartame and Acesulfame K? Yeuch. I'll stick with full-fat coke or pepsi thanks. :)

At least we know what moderate, long term consumption of sugar does. Plus artificial sweeteners give me a minging aftertaste that I can't shake off all day. Bleugh.

Oh yes, Aspartame will rot your insides. Shocking to see more manufacturers are putting it in more expensive drinks though such as Fanta and Tango. Seems its not just limited to "sink cleaner" cola

My DH once asked for a pack of Maxi Peps in the local off-licence and couldn't understand why the girl started laughing.

Diet Pepsi is the way to go. No ambiguity there and tastes the same as Pepsi Max.

Pepsi Max is aimed at men who won't buy stuff with 'diet' on the packaging.

I thought Pepsi Max was diet but also had no caffeine in? So Diet Pepsi does contain it though. So it's not really at men, just as people avoiding caffeine.

  • Pepsi Max does have caffeine in it, and I'm also addicted to drinking it.

I've tried the cheaper versions of coke and I agree that nothing beats it.
I don't mind paying abit more for something I enjoy, I can save my money on other things.

Just would like to say OP that although I haven't bought the pepsi in cans, I have picked up the wrong bottles before, the new labels at a very quick glance look the same and it wasn't until I got home that I noticed the bottle tops were a different colour.

Its abit slack on pepsi's behalf to make their drinks so similar
Just me, in my own little world

    Google tells me that:

    Diet Pepsi contains aspartame
Pepsi Max contains aspartame and acesulfame potassium

    Edited to add:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acesulfame_potassium

I know aspartame isn't great but I think I'll stick to the diet version...

Correct. All diet drinks will contain Aspartame. triticale was pointing out that full fat versions don't contain these. There is increasing evidence of how bad for your health Aspartame is.

As an aside, its now sneaking into many full fat drinks as well, which was the point I was making above.
