Just to join in on the original debate ..... never knew about he cdwow cyprus return policy thing. Though they sell so cheap that it is something you must bear in mind I suppose. Having said that I have ordered loads of stuff off them over the years and had no problems. Having said that I think that it is rather cheeky of cdwow to do this which effectively discourages people to return faulty goods. I assume that cdwow uk generate alot of income and hence should have a UK returns address for faulty goods.

Play.com I hope do not follow the same route as they do sell electrical goods so I would guess a plasma TV return to Cyprus would cost a fortune. Having said that I was delighted to discover that Play.com had a UK return address (not Channel Isl.) when my keyboard unit arrived faulty.

To me on a personal level I prefer to buy from within the UK unless the cost savings ARE SIGNIFICANT from abroad and the CUSTOMS CHARGES are incorporated into my calculations.

As for father christmas .... I thought he was from Russia (St. Nicholas and all that???). Would you buy something from a Russian Website????

As for the legal status of the channel islands I assume that they are self governing and are based on English Law until the Act of Union in 1776???? then became self gov. after that??? My history is rubbish as I am sure that the French owned the islands too at some stage complicating the legal issues somewhat!!!!!

Legally owning pets ????? ... all I know is that a guide dog must be purchased for 50pence by its new owner as a LEGAL requirement. Maybe this is a contractual thing between the new owner and the guide dog association!!! As for britain "owning" its wildlife I would say that wildlife has no legal status. The wildlife I assume only becomes subjected to legal issues when other "legal entities" like people, corporations and nations become involved.

    Anyhow time for bed....

That was the old policy, which ended last week. Now you must return any items to Cyprus.

This is the reason for me posting about it. I too have returned a few items over the years to the freepost address, so it was to my surprise that with this last item they are adamant that it is returned to Cyprus.

Of course if you don't believe me, you are welcome to check it out for yourself, although I believe this should have been done before claiming I was at fault.

Thank you for your email and sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.

I would kindly request you to send the item at the following address:

    PRIME Outsourcing
    (CD WOW!)
    Mykinon 1
    6010
    Larnaca
    CYPRUS

I can fully understand and appreciate the inconvenience of having to return products to our new centre in Cyprus. Unfortunately, this decision is completely beyond our control.

Of course, if we could, then we would continue to use the freepost envelope option for our UK customers but we have been forced to re-locate our Returns Depot and since the freepost address is only recognised within the UK, we cannot use this method any longer.

Since we have been trading all customers outside of the UK have accepted that they have to pay to return the item to us as their Postal Authority does not recognise UK freepost address in their local country and it has worked extremely well by us offering, as a goodwill gesture, to refund the cost of postage via evoucher.

As soon as we receive the item in our office we will issue an voucher to cover the postage cost (please include the proof of postage cost incurred by you ).

If you have any further queries please do let us know.

    Kind Regards,

    Kevin

  • Why don't you just seal the item back up as it was and write on the front, "Return to Sender, person does not live here". Then report to CD WOW that the item never arrived and they will have to send out a replacement item. Let it be their problem since they are causing hassle with daft return addresses.

    Because that would be fraud.
