I asked the same question on another site last night...http://holidayforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=81406&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=380
Could anyone recommend a cheap but sturdy, and secure bag suitable for men (handbag's don't suit me ) which comply with the current hand baggage restrictions?http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2851714/Trail/C%24cip%3D43327.Sports%2Band%2Bleisure%3EC%24cip%3D43342.Luggage%2Band%2Bclothing%3EC%24cip%3D43344.Sport%2Bbags%2C%2Bshoe%2Bbags%2Band%2Bholdalls.htm This one is quite "masculine" and I think just about conforms to the current restrictions of 45cm/35cm/16cm And this one I think : http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2860365/Trail/C%24cip%3D43327.Sports%2Band%2Bleisure%3EC%24cip%3D43342.Luggage%2Band%2Bclothing%3EC%24cip%3D43344.Sport%2Bbags%2C%2Bshoe%2Bbags%2Band%2Bholdalls.htm Argos have loads. I found these whilst looking for myself - under the "sports bags/shoe bags & holdalls" section. more than adequate, right size, sturdy, Used one for work for ages and the cheapest................ http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2859785/Trail/C%24cip%3D43327.Sports%2Band%2Bleisure%3EC%24cip%3D43342.Luggage%2Band%2Bclothing%3EC%24cip%3D43348.Brief%2Bcases.htm

I called thomson on Friday to ask the same question adn was told no allowance was to be made so I booked an extra 5kg for me - Saturday up appears a message on their website to say baggage allowance increased to 25kg - how amused was I.......

I contacted them today and was put through to an automated message which said ticketed allowance still stands, ie 15 Kgs still 15 Kgs and each additional Kg charged at £6 for package holidays.

This information is also on their website so bit confused now.

It's a good little moneyspinner methinks

Funnily enough 1 day or 1 week is very similar in basic packing, just a few more clothes

Notice to all passengers starting their journey at a UK airport
and to those transferring between flights at a UK airport.

    Updated Monday 14th August

Each passenger is permitted to carry ONE item of cabin baggage through the airport security search point (NB. Subject to the bag dimensions set out below, a bag or bags contained within a bag may be deemed to be one item of cabin baggage). The dimensions of this item must not exceed: a maximum length of 45 cm, width of 35 cm and depth of 16 cm (including wheels, handles, side pockets, etc.). All items carried by passengers will be x-ray screened.

No liquids of any type are permitted other than the following items:

Essential medicines in liquid form sufficient for the flight (e.g. diabetic kit), as long as they are verified.

Baby milk and liquid baby food sufficient and essential for the flight (the contents of each bottle or jar must be tasted by the accompanying passenger).

NOTE: The definition of liquids in the context of this letter should include gels, pastes, lotions, liquid/solid mixtures and the contents of pressurised containers, e.g. toothpaste, hair gel, drinks, soups, syrups, perfume, deodorant, shaving foam, aerosols, etc.

All laptops and large electrical items (e.g. large hairdryer) must be removed from the bag and placed in a tray for x-ray screening so that such items neither obscure nor are obscured by the bag.

All passengers may be hand searched and their footwear and all the items they are carrying may be x-ray screened.

Pushchairs, walking aids and wheelchairs are permitted and will be x-ray screened.

Passengers are encouraged to configure their baggage in line with the above requirements before arriving at the airport, and to allow plenty of time to pass through airport security screening.

We paid a fortune for being a couple of kilos overweight. Everyone else was being charged too. They charge less then recoup their profit this way:rolleyes:

  • No liquids may be carried on board, except:

    * prescription medicines necessary for the flight
    * baby milk and liquid baby food (which must be tasted during security checks by parents/guardians)

The definition of liquids includes all: gels, pastes, lotions, foams, mousses, liquid/solid mixtures, lipsticks, drinks and aerosol sprays. First Choice advises its customers to pack these items in hold baggage.

All shops, restaurants and cafés in the departure lounge are operating normally. If travelling to any destination except the USA, you may shop freely and take all products on board.

Just found this bit on the first choice website which is who ijm travelling with. Seems to sy no liquid but anything bought after check in maybe taken on board. On one hand it says no liquid but on the other hand its contradictary and says if you can buy it you can take it hmmmm

I spoke to first choice who we are flying with and they said that they are allowing an extra 5Kg on to the hold luggage allowance in leu of no hand luggage.

It wont really affect me because even with 2 kids we wont go anywhere near the baggage allowance but I wanted to make sure. As regards to the hand luggage, I am just taking our pram bag as that will fit the bits and bats that we will need.

Does anyone know about taking food? We have took off meals on the flight and were going to have sandwiches in the lounge, can we take these through? I forgot to ask.

We were hoping that it would be more relaxed by the time we go.

Hang on.....Just on the news now, they are hoping to relax the restrictions by next week, I hope so because it is all so confusing and contradicting. I was worried if we could take some colouring stuff and books on for the kids.
