Question about a roundabout
Options
I was wondering if I could pick your brains re a roundabout I use coming home from work. There’s 2 lanes approaching the roundabout, the way I’ve been using the roundabout is I enter the roundabout(approach road marked red) in the left lane and treat as though I’m going straight on but I’ve noticed some drivers get in the right hand lane and takes the same exit(blue) as me. Just to add the road marked black has a barrier across the road so is that classed as a left turn or is it disregarded. So my question is if I’m taking the blue exit would I treat it as though I’m going straight on or if I’m going right ?
Heres a link to a picture of the roundabout
thanks

I'd be in the left in that situation. There is a similar one near me and most people use the left lane to go straight across but occasionally someone will go in the right lane and cut someone up.0

In the absence of road markings/arrows telling you, I dont think any of the 2 are wrong BUT I would also use the left lane.
Just out of interest, do they indicate right then indicate left after the 1st exit? (something else thats been discussed before lol, I wouldnt).0 -
Right hand lane, I was always taught if you are taking the exit past 180degrees (i.e. past straight on) use the right hand lane, I would be mad if someone was using the left hand lane to go around the roundabout0

Either lane will do if you're going straight over unless marked otherwise but most people would go with the left. I'll probably be in the right laneNothing to see here, move along.0

Local custom and practice can influence a situation like this. We have one near use, the 1 o'clock exit is the continuaton of a dual carriageway and most drivers use the left hand lane to use it even though it is past 12 o clock.0

Ooh, i will be contraversial here as I have been taught differently. i have been taught that there is only 1 left turn and the 2nd exit is considered straight on regardless of whether it is at 180 degrees or not. Anything else would be in the right hand lane.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
To me I would use either. In effect it is straight on.0

Either lane unless its marked.Everyone should be checking their mirrors when exiting anyway to make sure there is noone they are likely to hit.
Problems usually arise when someone starts off in the left lane then drifts into the right then back to the left again when others are using the lanes.Fine to do on an empty roundabout but not when there's traffic about.0 -
I would use the left lane unless the car in front was indicating left, then I'd goround him.
A roundabout on my way towork winds me up, it's a daily scrap, I go straght over from the left lane, but probably 3 out of 5 days have some chump on my right carve in front of me to go left.0 -
My understanding is this.
As you approach a roundabout there will be sign showing the routes off of the roundabout.
If you are taking a route shown on the sign as up to and including straight ahead = left hand lane.
If you are taking a route shown on the sign as after straight ahead = right hand lane.0
