Hi Viole,
PM me your email address if you want copies of the latest accounts filed for this company.0 -
Hi Viole
I have been looking into your issues and you have every reason to get your money back from him.
Reference the initial payment and changing your mind I found the following from consumer direct website.
When to cancel
You can cancel at any time until:
- The end of the seventh working day after the day on which you receive your goods; or
- The end of the seventh working day after the day on which the trader agreed to go ahead with the service.
You also have a further three months to cancel if you were not given all the necessary written information. If the trader gives you this information late - but still before the three months are up - you will have seven days to cancel from the day you receive that information.
Obviously the only thing they may have done (but I very much doubt) is to contact the registary office. Can you check with them to see if he did this, that would be the only costs he could reasonably taken off within the 7 day notice period.
Have you contacted consumer direct yet? http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/ If not, you need to do this asap - they gave us loads of help and try CAB too. Consumer direct will also contact trading standards - on your behalf if you agree to this (I believe they need to be aware of this as he is breaking lawful act here (I did read which one but cant remember). If you know that he is telling people that there are no Saturdays free in September, are the prospective brides willing to write statements to this effect (very important if you can get this for court) and if not, it would be worth someone enquiring to this effect and getting it in writing via email (when I booked he sent me emails as to which dates were available).
Consumer direct will also talk you through the legal process of pre-action letters you have to send before you get to court. There are a number of letters that should be sent (do all by recorded delivery) before you get to court to prove to court that you have tried to settle this out of court.

Thanks to everyone for their support and advice. I have done most of what you all suggest, fortunately almost from the beginning of the saga. For some reason I had this nagging doubt, from about day 2, that we had been had and it looks as if this is turning out to be true. We do have email evidence and are getting to the point that we may have to go to court. I'll probably need more advice - I'm and advice junkie! JCSI, I'll try and PM you my email but I'm not very good at all this and I seem to spend alot of time lost in cyberspace. Lots of thanks to everyone once again. Beks you make a wonderful consultant.Hi Viole
I cannot believe this is happening ... however, it does give me more reason to go public. I feel so sorry that you and your poor dd and her OH fell into the same trap as us. Okay, the story is a little different but obviously the owner continues to cause devastating problems with his attitude and behaviour. It makes me furious.. I will remove all my references to your thread from the posts on my thread before I disclose the venue. We have to wait for 14 days for the courts to release the money because the amount was above £1000 so a week to go.

I think you have a good case and I am sure many on here will give you great advice and I will certainly be with you every step of the way.
Please dont let him win, he can be beaten but you have to stay strong and expect the unexpected from him.
When I get a minute I will PM you with some other ideas too (dont want to put on here just in case one of his alies read my thread and linked to yours).

Two more bad reviews for the venue on trip advisor. It beats me why anyone would want to run a hotel/restaurant business if they have such contempt for people!
Its good to see you're getting so much support already Viole. The one good thing to come out of a bad situation is that the people involved can give wonderful advice on how to deal with specific issues. Even people not directly involved give amazing advice too!!
My daughter's planning to get married in 2012 (was supposed to be August 2011 but she's pregnant so they've decided to wait!!) so following Beks situation has been a real eye opener and made me aware of things to look out for when the time comes. This wedding business is a minefield!!!!! :eek:0 -

Email address recieved and accounts sent through. Wonder if he knows that as a limited company anything filed at Companies House is technically in the public domain
Let me know if you have any queries on the accounts.0 -
Viole - sorry if I am being dense (its late and I really need to be in bed as I have a really early start in the morning) is it this September that your DD was thinking about? If so, I would be willing to make an enquiry to see which Saturdays if any are free and ask which dates are available:D0
