Where did you go for your first drive?

I remember my first drive alone. I just kept driving straight and kept to the main roads until I found a big roundabout to turn around on and go back. I was really scared of getting into a tricky situation and was a bit scared of going down side streets in case I had to deal with narrow roads with parked cars and oncoming traffic etc. I was also scared I'd make a mistake or misjudge something so I drove extra carefully on the first few trips. I soon got my confidence up. It wasn't long before I was hairing round country roads like a lunatic. Luckily I got through that phase of my life intact with no speed-related accidents.
P.s. Buying a good sat nav was the best thing I ever did to combat nerves. If you're driving somewhere you don't know, and your a new driver anyway, then that's bad enough, so the last thing you need is to be stressing about getting lost as well. They really do help.0 -
I passed my test and had my old banger sitting waiting on me.
Came in, sorted the insurance, then offered to drop some keys off at my partners work.
Had to go to petrol station first, got there after convincing myself car was a death trap and wasn't steering properly (had only been in instructors super new car), couldn't get the petrol cap off and drove back home terrified and crying that I would never drive again, much to the hilarity of my partner.
I loved that wee car once I got used to it, take it easy when you first pass, its scary (well it was to me) to be suddenly driving without someone next to you.0 -
I love my satnav too, but no way do you need the distraction when you first start driving, I can usually be found telling mine to shut up!0

I drove from my home to visit my grandparents. All of 4 miles. 19 February 1975. How proud was I?:D:D0

I went to the local shop. My mum wasn't going to give me the car but my sister said i'd passed my test so I must be okay! My husband had to sell our car on the Sunday as we were skint. I passed my test 2 days later! My driving instructor said he'd look out for me driving around in my nice car (his words
- it was an Escort Ghia - I loved that car!) I didn't like to tell him we'd had to sell it.
My mum passed her test and never drove for 2 years afterwards.0 -
The thing about driving on your own, that you don't think about until the time comes, is knowing how to get somewhere because you've always relied on being told 'turn left''turn right' etc..0

I never drove very far for a few years after passing my test. The first time I had to drive to the airport, my jaw was sore because it was set - and my knuckles were white from gripping onto the wheel! I never drove in a multi-storey until about 10 years ago - and I passed my test in 1988! Everytime I had to go into Aberdeen without my husband, my mum would say she'll drive because it's always busy - and i'd let her.
The roles have reversed now though and I always take them into town. It took a long time for my mum to trust my driving though.
I drive about 12000 miles a year, yet the farthest i've ever driven from home is about 50 miles away.Never driven on a motorway either - none hereabouts.

My fiance is good at navigation (she got her mum from Liverpool to Devon by following the A-Z) but I don't fancy her giving me directions then us falling out if I make a wrong turn lol.
I think my plan will be to drive from our house to my fiances grans house which is about 17 miles but make sure we have step by step directions first0
