If Jet2 has been looking dodgy for some time why has its share price (part of Dart Group) been going up?

As at 31/3/09 Jet2.com Ltd made a pretax profit of £30m and had £68m cash at bank. Not the sign of a company doing especially badly but recognise the figures are from their last reported trading year.

Any airline will have found the last year or so difficult but as people have mentioned, the share price of their parent company has been going up and they seem to have cash in the bank. They've seem some significant expansion in the past year, setting up a new base at East Midlands - if you're struggling financially then expansion is usually way down the list of priorities.

Its probably just Jet2`s turn for the rumours :)
Wasnt it about a month or so ago that Monarch were going bust
    Have a nice day :)
  • It's all rubbish - In fact Jet2 are probably one of the safer airlines to book with at the moment

    Not exactly rumours.

More a bit of a PR storm because Paddy Power were taking bets on which airline would be the next to go - Monarch were listed as the 4/1 favourites: http://betting.gamingsupermarket.com/news/1854/paddy-power-angers-airline-with-next-bust-market

I have no idea about Jet2's finances, however, they have categorically stated that they will not be paying their customer's expenses post volcano.

That is both illegal and dreadfull customer service. They also hiked their prices mercilessly for those trying to get home (including me!).

I have several other flights booked with them later this year so would be interested to hear informed views on their finances.

After this years flights, I will definately be looking elsewhere for flights.

We flew with Jet2 and the were offering full refunds on any newly booked flight so the "hiking the prices mercilessly" comment is not really appropriate.

Also they have now done a "half" u-turn in that there website now says:-
"We appreciate some of our Jet2.com customers may have unfortunately incurred additional expense due to this extraordinary situation, which was entirely outside of our control. Jet2.com will consider further options for passenger claims as the situation becomes clearer over the coming weeks.
    "

We are going to submit a claim for our hotel expenses etc and see what happens

The comment about hiking their prices mercilessy is still appropriate for me as they have not refunded any of my airfares yet. What else would you call an increase from £650 return to nearly £1000 single?

Glasd to hear about their half change of heart though
