    Good morning everyone:wave:
Mr Goodadvice and I are off to the sea side today. Visiting MIL.
Penny pinching = I am taking a fruit cake I made. I baked x2 at the same time I cooked a lasagna. All in my half size oven at once to fill it and save on electric.

Taking MIL a neck cushion I recovered for her.
Material was a pale blue duvet cover.

Awesome walks along the clifftop - have to keep taking the dog out! I expect our water dog will have a swim in the sea at some point.

When I cooked the lasagna I used a bent tin of value chopped tomatoes and mixed in some herbs 24p YS instead of the bolognese sauce jar I use to use @ over a £1.

Will be buying Nicky toilet rolls. I will buy a stash online when I have decided which shop.

Front room is like a laundry room with x2 clothes aires up to dry washing. I put them up overnight when everyone is sleeping and take down in the morning. Saves on tumble dryer electric when raining.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

I get through lots of hairbands for my long hair. I save the little loops of thin elastic that labels are sometimes attached to items with eg. clothes, toiletries.

If you have food waste bins from your local council, use newspaper to line and wrap food in. I have saved a fortune doing this as the biodegradable bags cost about £3 for a roll and liable to split if they get too full. Newspaper also absorbs the pong.

I also line the bottoms of kitchen bin and outdoor bins with newspaper to soak up any accidental bag splits and help with the smells.

Finally I use newspaper to soak up/wipe any greasy pots and pans before washing them- cuts down on washing up liquid and means the grease can go in our council food waste and not down the sink or put in a plastic bottle.

Good Advice - my Mum always used to put the clothes horse in front of the dying fire before she went to bed for the same reason ;) Before we go to bed I hang my king size quilt covers & sheets over my landing balustrade 'cos the long drop makes less creases for DH to iron - haha

I never thought of using newspapers to soak the grease of pots. That is so clever. Thanks! :T

:hello:Thanks money savers for convincing me!

Finally bought 2x 18 Nicky Elite 3ply toilet rolls in white From Savers. £3.95 a pack.
Best price I could find after researching = 22p each roll.

The Range are a 4 pack 2 ply for £1

Approved foods are a whopping £1.49 for a pack of 4 = 37p per roll.

    No farm foods near by.

All this penny pinching over loo rolls :rotfl::whistle:
Big improvement on my last shop. Velvet 9 packet £3.75 = 41p per roll.

I am always perplexed over the price of loo rolls. Sometimes the tissue on the cheaper rolls is so thin that you end up using three times as much to get yourself really clean. I'm not sure that ends up being a saving so that's the one economy we no longer make in our house now - ie buying thin toilet paper. We save that penance for unavoidable use in public loos and other such places. I suppose we could use the thin stuff for No 1s and thick stuff for No 2s but I can't see anybody sticking to the rules !

You could ask them beforehand and then give out a couple of sheets of the appropriate paper.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Ah but think of the savings GA & I'm sure you will find them a very acceptable alternative - the thing that bugs me is the price of a box of tissues WHY do they cost so much compared to toilet rolls?? Its paper after all.

When cooking in the oven, turn the oven off 10 minutes before the end of cooking time. It stays hot enough to continue cooking and you save 10 mins worth of electricity.

Turning the oven off early works particularly effectively if you are cooking in a cast iron casserole dish which continues to hold its heat for ages.
