Those acursed moles...

  • A common way of getting rid of moles is to plant capper trees (trees that grow cappers.....) where the moles are. They don't like the taste of the roots so will move elsewhere.

Try and find the name of a good mole catcher - apparently the smoke canisters which used to work are no longer sold to the like of us.

    What do I do?

This afternoon I've chucked some mothballs in some of the mounds (MIL advice). But if that doesn't work........

Apparently musical birthday cards shoved down the hole annoy them (like they do the rest of us!) and so they leave:T

    Never tried it myself!

My dad get's these at work, they have these sound things you put where the holes are and they make a noise to drive the moles away. They're meant to be good, but they drove the moles the wrong way where he works so I guess they aren't great. But something noisey is probably a good plan.

    Hi researcher,

There are a couple of threads on the Greenfingered board that might help:

    Moles in the garden

    Those acursed moles...

How can I get rid of moles?!? AAAARGGGHHHH!!!

I'll move your thread over to that board to see if you can get some more help.

Can confirm they don't like mothballs. At a country cottage we rented for a holiday, my mum suggested this to the owner. She put loads down each mound. Next morning the mole had pushed them all back out :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've heard putting milk bottles (or the like) into the mounds so that the wind can blow across the top making a whistling (better description?) type sound really annoys them.

    Moles eh???

We had some at the last house, put all sorts down the holes to no avail. bought the sound thing - it just dug more holes around the thing as it scarpered, but mainly dug holes about a foot away from the sound thing presumably in between the sound bursts.
Finally decided to use it as a positive and kept all the mole hole soil for replanting stuff and just put grass seed down once levelled off.
Not convinced that there is a way apart from killing them, which quite frankly i didn't want to do. One day i am sure the whole garden will cave in, but not my garden anymore so essentially i am no help whatsoever am i?

Good luck, perhaps think of it as a naughty pet??? Often imagined them down below, staring at our mole scarer puffing on a mole cigar saying to themselves 'mole scarer eh?' and plotting the mayhem they would cause to pay us back.
