British Airways strike - UPDATE 27/6 LATEST UNION STRIKE BALLOT POSTPONED

British Airways cabin crew are to be balloted next week on whether to back a peace deal or support further crippling strike action.

The 12,000 flight attendants will be asked to take part in an online 'consultative' ballot which will run for five days from Tuesday after talks between British Airways bosses and the union Unite.

Union correspondence sent to members and seen by the Daily Mail makes clear they will have the choice either 'to accept the deal or give notice for further strike dates'.

But hopes of averting fresh strikes by BA cabin crew hinge on a row over strikers losing their lucrative free and cheap travel perks as well as 50 strike-related disciplinary cases against union members.

  • I totally agree for their reasons for being on strike... During the last one I saw a 2010 reg BMW 7 series and Jaguar being driven by cabin crew, waving their unite flags out the windows. It's disgusting they should be forced to drive such vehicles due to their low pay scales!!!!!
:T If you don't have anything sensible to say, don't say it! :T

We were due to fly with BA (as a Qantas customer) to Australia via Tokyo.

We had weeks of stress about the strikes before a volcano finally put paid to it.

Rebooked for this Tuesday but bypassing Tokyo (and BA!!!) and flying all Qantas flights this time.

So relieved. Never ever would book with BA again.

BTW, I don't see how anyone can agree with what the unions are doing now. There are thousands of BA customers stuck abroad. Surely they could put their striking on hold until the backlog clears. Selfish:mad:

I don't neccesarily agree with the BA cabin crew being on strike, but everyone has the right to strike if they feel neccesary.

However, given the events of the last week, I think they are suicidal if they vote to strike again.

They have a legal right to strike. As as been said many times, companies can't pick and choose the laws they have to obey.
Whether I approve or not, it makes sense to time the strike to have the most impact, not the least.

I was thinking of morality rather than legality:)

However, as a poster above has stated, it will be suicidal to strike now. There are lots of other airlines that fly the same routes as BA, so why book with an unreliable company.

    Support ryanair!
or any American airline, or non eu airline.

What's wrong with the morality of trying to improve your wages?
Or should cabin staff be paying for the volcano as well now.

If you actually bothered to read a good broadsheet or reliable news you would see that the dispute between BA and Unite is not as cut and dry as 'trying to improve their wages'

Nonetheless I think all striking staff should be sacked on the spot. Unite shows yet again that despite all the trouble airline passengers have had to endure recently, despite the millions lost by both the public and the airlines they are willing to yet again to cause trouble for millions of innocent travellers.

I say now what i have said previously "Why, if you are not happy in your employment would you not find alternative employment"

Nothing. But they can do it without my financial support. Yes, I would even fly with Ryanair. At least you get what you pay for!:D

And I'm sure the unite response to you would be "if you're not happy with BA flight staff, fly yourself"
You need them, they need you.
    Or not.
Either way, remember to make your view clear to any member of staff next time you board a BA flight.
