Bit of a development over in Bear Towers; I spent the weekend with a friend & realised how much loneliness is the major contributing factor in times when I feel uber down. Now I can clearly identify that I feel better about tackling it
I can't multi-quote but like [DB, DC and others] I so hear what you're saying - xx
Thanks for the laughs and making me feel less like this tonight as well xx

ShaggyWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Morning folks,
I've not posted in quite a long time. Life has been fine, but my drinking has been creeping up and up and has intensified over the past few weeks so I'm back here looking to make a commitment to cutting down (or even quitting).
A typical example is one night last week. I'd decided to get a small bottle of wine from the supermarket but even on the bus home I was panicking that it wouldn't be enough. The minute it was gone I was back at the offie buying more.
And if I open a bottle of wine I end up drinking the lot.
Sick of hangovers.
Thanks for listening.0 -
BHB lovely to see you and the Mrs - hows tricks and whats happenning on the homestead!
I've converted the kids to watching The Good Life and finally my DD has recognised my motivation and has asked if I'm barbara!!!! If only!! Studies are carp but I finish in Dec - won't be trying a PhD again that's for sure!
BHB new house and I are getting to be more friends - we're thinking of the paddock at the side of the house and byres to rent but its an extra £25 A WEEK so not sure if I want to commit that kind of money to that.
On the other hand if I can figure a way to make an extra >£1200 a year from it I'd bite his hand off
Chickens are ordered and a new henhouse is as well - been offered some piggies but not sure about them - pals say they wouldn't do it again - so not sure. You seem to get on OK with your 'HM bacon' what do you reckon.
I don't want goats - too much like hard work!
We've been offered umpteen pet lambs - which as they are free I'm almost keen on - but like I say - £1200 a year for a byre and a field seems alot.
In the house we've 2 sheds anyway - and bits of garden about enough to have a hen run and a peedie field if we'd like anyway - but not enough to consitute a croft without the 'paid bits'
Planted around 50m of willow since early April - 1 m wide all around 2/3 of the main garden - a fuel hedge - did all the cuttings myself and co-erced the kids into planting it with me - over the past month and put in raised beds, chicken fencing (100m), windbreak (60m) and feel liek I've moved about 2 tonnes of soil (got some from freecycle to make my raised beds with) - and dug half the old house garden, split the plants up and then I've got them in fish box containers at the moment until I can make up more raised beds etc so this year my perennial flower garden might just be in fishboxes - although infront of the hedge I've started putting in Hesperis (sweet rocket) and feverfew - dotted with transplanted bulbs etc - takes a while to sort out exactly what you want in a garden but I'm always too impatient!!!!! Two bird tables up but we need a couple more.
No greenhouse yet - although I've the promise of a free one if I move it - and looking at polytunnels but might not get that done just yet - and don't want to risk a new cover over a winter without a season in it (IYSWIM). So all the indoor crops tomatoes etc all planted and potted up inside both upstairs and downstairs sunny rooms (too many I think I've over 100 tomatoes alone).
Aside that - not much happening here!
PS sorry chaps this was a 'small holder' update stylee progress report for BHB - and wondering about home grown meat and home grown piggies - not meant to be war and peace. (or Homes and Gardens!!) thank goodness I'm AF otherwise this wouldn't have been possible!
So what have you been doing in your spare time? :rotfl::rotfl:
You are putting us to shameWe have not really got on this year. The poly tunnel is full of veggies, but outside we only have potatoes, onions and garlic in.....but lots of weeds :rotfl:
We seem to be heading for just poultry only at the moment, though having said that the goat is due to have kids soon ....according to the goat oracle (Mrs BHB;))
We have 18 guinea fowl eggs in the incubator, which are my favourite table bird, but they are a !!!!!! to catch as they fly up the trees. Apart from that we are just selling a few eggs and 6-8 week old chicks.
It's a bit of a slow year, no motivation from either of us this year .....down to the beer and wine no doubt
Your £25 a week does seem a lot, but guess it depends on how big the barn and field are, and if its good grazing. I think you would have to have several sheep to cover the cost of it. If it was down here, I would expect to pay that for a nice horse paddock and stable, or a few acres of arable or very good grazing. Offer them £25 / month and take the free lambs:money:
Managed to get a dentist appointment for lunchtime, so hope the toothache will be gone by this afternoon!
Have a great day everyone

This may sound weird but I find it really comforting that someone else feels like this
Good luck with getting back on track, I'm aiming for that myself

Welcome back - it's amazing how it creeps back slowly over a period of time.
That's why alcohol is cunning, baffling and powerfulAnd if I open a bottle of wine I end up drinking the lot.
I can understand that. I never listened to the little voice that said 'enough is enough' . I only wanted to stop drinking when I absolutely had to (i.e. running out of money, kicked out of club, passing out). Actually, I didn't even hear that little voice most of the time.Sick of hangovers.
I eventually got sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. And I put the action in to stop.
If what you're doing is not working, then try different methods.0
