So, as long as they know your bank account details, they can take money....

It's scary.....
Hiya treepotato1,
Thanks for the link.
This is a bit worrying.
However, this lady in question, 'PammiJ' - she used her newly issued card, to make payments to The Money Shop, hence they had her new card details on file, and so were then able to withdraw money from her account.
I certainly won't be telling The Money Shop, about my new card number.
Having got off the phone earlier to the CAB, they reckon, that The Money Shop will be able to present the cheques to my A&L bank, and they will probably be honoured, due to them having been 'guaranteed' by the card.
She wasn't 100% though, so is going to check.
Do any of you know, if these cheques (now cancelled, along with card yesterday) will be paid by the bank (who will then charge me..), even though the chequebook has now been stopped?
Having trawled the web for info, there is conflicting info out there.
The CAB lady has also worried me, as she said, that due to my having taken the loan out, knowing that I wouldn't be able to repay it within the 30 days, that this would be classed as fraudulent (especially as I'd told The Money Shop I was working, when I wasn't).. that this coupled with the fact that I "haven't been able to make 3 months' clear payments to any of my debts, so I wouldn't be eligible for her help under Legal Aid"
She said that she'd still me at the CAB appt next week, but she might have to refer me to another 'in house CAB advisor' instead.
I'm trying to keep a cool head, but I just can not see a way out of all this mess.
I am sober though

Hi Sim - what Money Shop do or don't do is out of your control. Worrying is quite natural, but also pointless.
The only thing you can do is try to do something that ensures you don't drink today. It was a bender that got you into this dilemma, so try and do whatever you can to make sure you don't have that first drink.

Hi Graeme,
Thanks.
Sorry. I can see that I'm obsessing about this
You're spot on.
I need to focus my energy, into things I can do something about.
Being angry with oneself, for such stupidity, and lack of self - control, is exhausting.
I keep worrying, that I'm going to be convicted by The Money Shop / A&L bank, for fraud, however my friend came over today (she's lovely..we met in AA about 18 months back, and she's been sober over a year) - She said that the worst case scenario, is that A&L might close down my bank account / charge me / Money Shop will charge me.
Methinks, I need a good dose of perspective!

Sim as Graeme says there is no good in worrying about things that are out of your control.
I am the same and have had to re-align the way I think about things. I am forever worried about what if I lose my house, What if this happens or that happens and before I know it the good times are now and they are slipping by before I realise that they have gone i.e the kids grow up so quick and they will be adults before I know it. Cbeebies is a distant memory and now I have to endure "Zack and Cody" and the "Wizards of Waverly Place". I suppose that is a long winded way to say things that are out of our control are not worth fretting over as the outcome is not down to us.
As for being convicted, speaking as a BR who thought they would be locked up, that is not going to happen so soldier on and well done for being sober

They are when they don't disturb your sleep  I had my normal vivid dream last night, trying to get on a bus (always always either a bus, train, boat or plane) with loads of bags and can't find a seat, bus went wrong way and I got lost. This is a regular and has been for years, there must be a reason behind it....anyone read dreams?
No don't read dreams but it could be that the bus/train/whatever is representative of the wagon you are trying to stay on or a personal journey regards alcohol, and you are struggling to stay on track. Or maybe just a classic i am stressed dream what with everything else going on? Hope you are okits just a thought

Although for the purists perhaps not as I accidentally took a slurrp of my friend's G&T last night thinking it was my water . I'm not counting it tho' as wasn't intentional. I was really cross with my friend, which is irrational. Perspective needed I think.

Good for you glad it's all going well x0
