Sorry to hear abhout your worries.
I hate to tell you this and i could be wrong, but i used to get these payday loans and it's my understanding that it doesn't matter if you cancel the cheques and cards as they will still get the money from your bank at the agreed time, it's in the terms and conditions, and any charges incurred are down to you.
Have you thought about getting a basic bank account so you don't have any option to write cheques and get into more debt? I know since i did and cancelled all my cards since being on a debt management plan it is easier in a way i can't get any credit and safer in some ways re drinking etc.
Have you called the CCCS or visit them online? They can really help with all of this.
On the plus side sounds as if you were sober last night so onwards abd upwards no?
By the way read the link to your previous post and agree with your girlfrined honesty is not always the best policy!
Good Luck i really hope it all works out for you. As it happens i was up last night as couldn,t sleep and wish i had read your post to respond earlier everything seems worse at night.
As i say i am not an expert about these things which i why i recommend you see one!
Thanks
SSG
Hiya SSG.
Thanks for your help.
I've called the A&L bank, and have cancelled my card / cheque book this evening.
They will be issuing me, with replacements, but I certainly won't be making the same mistake again.
I already have a second, basic account with the Co - Op, so I might use this in future.
However, I would prefer to keep hold of the A&L account if at all possible.
Are you 100% that The Money Shop, can still cash the 'old' cheques, even though they've been cancelled?
I can't see how they can, if I've cancelled both the card and the cheque book..
Also, I had some advice from another MSE forum member (David_Brent), on the Debt Free Wannabe board -

Re your advice about the CCCS, I've already been in touch with National Debtline, and the CAB, and have an appointment with the CAB to sort all of this out, a week on Wednesday :T
I've been really ill, since my last drink, last Friday night
So, now I'm starting to feel a bit better, and my head is clearing a bit, I'm looking forward to dealing with the debts, and starting afresh with it all, with a sober head on
Thanks again,
Sim x0 -
Hi all
Well done Marru- sounds like you weren't phased at all, always a good sign (will not even pretend to suggest that I have any idea about variances etc. but I'm sure you do and thats what counts!)
BP- sounds like a productive weekend?! Less claustraphobic than of late for you. I had a non-drinking friend round to watch the football and they left a couple of bottles of their non-alcoholic beer behind-it was Becks blue label, and chilled, tasted quite nice, although I avoid alcohol substitutes as they trigger my taste for the real stuff, but a couple during the football shouldn't hurt?
Sim- so sorry you have worries at the moment, try the CCCS, they might be able to negotiate with your creditor? Its worth a go, although you might get stung by high interest rates. Have you spent the £500? If not perhaps you could offer what you have left as an initial payment? Hope things start to look up for you, you've had a rough time recently.
Jo- hugs to you, you must be very shocked and distressed to see your godmothers deterioration, hope your mum is OK and coming to terms with it too.
Best of luck to everyone this week.
Thanks eselt.
I'm seeing the CAB next week, and hopefully they'll be able to negotiate with Money Shop, as the first repayment isn't due for another 3 weeks.
I realise that they may well add extra charges, however they can't take what I don't have, so I'm trying to keep it in perspective.
The money has been spent regrettably.
Thanks again,

Jo, sorry to hear you're feeling poorly.
I've been where you're at the last few days, and it's grim.
I know exactly what you mean, about feeling paranoid and twitchy.
Hope you feel loads better, after a good nights kip.
Big hug at ya!
Night night,

Sorry I have been absent, given all the family bits going on at the moment I've been doing quite well on the odd glass here and there. Just had the second lot of sad news in a couple of weeks so we are all in a bit of a pickle. Will come back later when I feel more sorted.
Hope everyone else is well, hugs Pen xThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -

Sim I have to be honest i am not 100% sure of them being able to cash the cheques, especially after reading this David Brent's posts, i did all this a number of years ago and maybe mixed up, this guy certainly seems to know what he is talking about though so all sounding good.
Sorry about that i kind of posted before thinking properly when i read your post from the night before, so i hope i didn't originally make you feel even worse not my intention!
I went out Friday morning and got a bottle of vodka and tanned3/4of it by 9pm:eek: then early shift the next day, felt like death all day but have not had a drink since i am starting to feel much more positive now.
Just want to sort it all out, just like you:)
Glad you posted as i was a bit worried.
We are all doing the best we can at the end of the day, onwards and upwards:)
Take it easy
