    Well....success of sorts...went to get G'F'S particular stir fry sauce (has to be the SAME one...women hey (!!) & bought some vodka....on autopilot BUT bought 1/2 the usual ammount as wanted to be up to give GF a lift to work & be able to drive in the morning....did not sleep at all well as not in the groove of not drinking & catching up on normal sleep & likewise not comatose (!)....so a big reduction for me yesterday-a concious choice-aiming at none tonight.....have a feeling I'll do it as 'tapering off' works sometimes for me....

    Brokepaolo....I've done 42 days last year with no drink...moderation STILL didn't work for me as if there was a bottle in the house I'd always have 1 more....If i was out drinking socially however I feel I could moderate...odd hey??

    So...staying positive & aiming at AF today! Also taking some kudzu which is said to ward off any cravings (if taken an hour or so before your usual time!) & have some lovely white seedless grapes....as I read that the carb crash is what causes cravings (has worked before for me) so have a good day all!

    So I have decided life is too short to be counting calories. I have my Paul Mckenna book and CD and am going to start following his principles more closely. Basically:

    * Eat when you're hungry
    * Eat what you want, not what you think you should eat
    * Enjoy every mouthful
    * Stop when you think you're full

    There is a great book on 'proper' eating that I always forget the name of..... its by Michael Pollan..... 'In defence of food', I think. It's full of things like that, but more about what you eat (my OS side coming out :o)

    In fact, I may go and see if they have it at lunchtime (I've read articles about it and extracts, never the full thing)

    talking of waffle..... :rotfl: :rotfl: :silenced:

    *waves to Doc.... AGAIN*

    Keep us informed on how the new eating plan goes MissP, sounds easier than calorie counting and hopefully will be more effective. OH had a LBM last week (well more of a tiny flicker) because he couldn't do up trousers of a favourite suit. He decided cakes and biscuits were to be banned and sugar cut in tea/coffee. That's fine by me as I don't eat them. Yesterday though he made me a fish finger sandwich for lunch and then cup of tea and half a Crunchie (usual footie treat) in the afternoon. His cutting down is going to result in us both putting on weight! I must admit his cutting down alcohol is making it easier for me.

    Thanks for your words about cutting-down/not apologising earlier fay. I know exactly how bp must feel as the tone of the thread often feels like everyone is trying to give up and so guilt sets in when drinking.

    bp, I was exactly like you and had got into the habit of drinking every night when I got in after work. I probably still would as I enjoy it but decided to cut down because of all the publicity over units etc.. I've gradually got myself into a pattern of having a minimum of 10 AF days a month and not drinking more on the other nights to catch up!

    debtmonkey, I can understand how much easier it is to be moderate when out. Obviously cost may come into it, how to behave in public and also, at home, it's so easy to just splash another generous measure into the glass.

    It's warm but dull here. I'm waiting for someone to fix my washing machine. What was that about waffles.....

    (P.s Yes, Fay completely right in telling BP not to apologise. We are all here with different targets in mind and we should support everyone in achieving their targets!)

    I can't for the life of me work out LBM - something something moment I think. Please help as I cannot concentrate until I work it out!!:D

    I apologise to all if I talk too much about stopping drinking completely. That's only because I cannot drink any alcohol safely. So it has to be totally AF for me.
    Thus I don't have much to say on cutting down. My hat's off to those that can cut down successfully - I never managed it despite trying for years.

    My rule of thumb is that if one can cut down and drink safely and still be happy about it, then that's great.
    However, if that proves impossible, then AF maybe an easier and happier route. If I had an alcoholic drink, I don't think I could ever be happy about stopping there. Even if I didn't drink any more, I certainly wanted to.
    Which is my alcoholism

    GC, you know we all appreciate your input so please don't go feeling you talk to much about stopping completely. Its something YOU have experience of and we all benefit from your assessment of our posts.
