""Crikey, I wish people would read before they have a dig""
sometimes the one most crucial but tiny nugget of information is hidden away in a long post.. and we all speed read sometimes and make mistakes... me especially later on in the evening....0 -
Buy a pay as you go and what?
The OP didn't have the LL's number, so couldn't have contacted her with a new phone, a phone box phone, or Aunty Edna's phone!
And as for your comment on the TomTom ~ the OP said
Thesefore, if his phone is broken and in for repair, he wouldn't be able to get hold of a list of his destinations, would he?
Crikey, I wish people would read before they have a dig.
OP I hope you get this all sorted, the LL is an absolute disgrace, please don't let her get away with this.
I don't have Tom Tom on my phone so don't know whether it logs desitnations or not like a normal sat nav does hence the question mark at the end of the comment. He says he has a backup anyway - so wouldn't the data be on his backup sim or computer that he could put into another unlocked phone??
I wasn't referring to the phone to call the landlady it was in response to the original post about being stranded 150 miles away with no phone (but a tank of petrol so could drive back so not stranded) no where to live (but able to stay at girlfriends). A phone I would have thought would be a necessisty for a Doctor on call to be able to up his salary by 1.5 times so a Paygo for that reason.
I am not having a dig I am asking questions thats the point of a public forum. I was entitled to question the comment about salary as having worked in the NHS since 1996 I know what 'junior' doctors get paid and its not £50K. Speciality registrar yes - but thats not what he originally said.
As a few others have said there appears to be more to this than meets the eye... does he not have a landline at the property the landlady could have rung him on if she was so bothered she has evicted him or she could have put a note through the door?? Why didn't she ring him at the hospital? Why go into his flat & go to the trouble of putting the post on the table but not bother to leave a note? Clearly the Landlady was bothered enough to go round yet arranges the post and leaves no note!!0 -

No landline.
Yes! A note would have been nice! As I said, I'm certain she was there on the Wednesday as the locks were done differently and my post moved to the kitchen table. She could have left a note easily...
Yes! She could have got me at the hospital. She has my work details and even a contact in staffing (who she actually spoke to before I moved in).
Maybe I have done something I shouldn't have. I can't think of anything. I really don't know. I haven't had the chance to actually talk to her about it.
Milliewilly: You don't seem to understand that a junior doctor is anyone who is still training. A registrar (no matter how senior) is a junior doctor. I called myself a junior doctor 2 years ago. I am still a junior doctor now. I am also a speciality registrar. There is no contradiction. Read the definition of a junior doctor please: http://www.bma.org.uk/patients_public/whos_who_healthcare/glossdoctors.jsp0 -

An iphone makes a backup on your PC when you sync it. You can restore all your settings and numbers to an iphone (but it wipes the existing memory). You can't read the backed up iphone data on your PC (you could probably hack it somehow, but that's beyond me).Milliewilly wrote:I wasn't referring to the phone to call the landlady it was in response to the original post about being stranded 150 miles away with no phone (but a tank of petrol so could drive back so not stranded) no where to live (but able to stay at girlfriends). My girlfriend is also a doctor. She was working an A&E shift yesterday finishing at 3am. I *could* have hung around 6 hours for her at a push. She lives with her parents at the moment. Her dad is very traditional and wouldn't appreciate me staying with her without his prior knowledge and approval. He has however offered me his sofa upon hearing whats happened.
I do resident on-calls. That means I have to be on site at all times when on-call. I have a bleep and an internal phone in my on-call room. Mobile phones are not an essential requirement for my job. If they were, the hospital would have to provide one.0 -
A few hours reflection. I think you have been set up for this. The changing of payment account, the 'failure to accept your details' by the bank. The very quick illegal eviction. Why did LL want property back?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Junior doctors do earn £50,000 per year and can earn up to £69,369. As stated clearly earlier in this thread :
"Junior doctors earn a basic salary and will usually be paid a supplement. This supplement is based on the extra hours worked above a 40 hour standard working week and the intensity of the work. The most common banding supplement is 50% of basic salary. In the most junior hospital doctor post (foundation year 1) a doctor on a 50% supplement would earn £33,285. This increases in the second year (foundation year 2) to £41,285. A doctor in specialist training on a 50% supplement could earn from £44,117 to £69,369."

Lets hope Milliewilly does not work in NHS Management, then again, it wouldn't be any surprise.
OP don't worry, the vast majority believe what you're saying and will try to offer support. I'm no expert in this area but I think how you've been treated is criminal. I do think you should take this as far as you can, because whilst you have the support of family to provide a roof over your head, who's to say the next tenant isn't a single mother without your level of support. Being locked out of her own house may put her on the street.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do. Personally I'd be going for the jugular, but I could understand if you just wanted to walk away.
ps, having seen my SiL work the hours of a Junior Doctor over the last 5 years I can understand why your personal live might be a bit more disorganised than those of us working 9to5.:beer:0 -
LL has committed a criminal offence.

Take the b*tch to thecleaners. I am considering renting part of our new home, I wouldnt treat an animal with such disrespect.
Show her the contempt she has shown you and then some.
Lets see how fun she thinks it all is with a criminal record.0 -
Will keep my fingers xed for you too, it has its moments i can tell you, You get used to being disliked in certain circles.
In the pub one night a local landlord who had just lost £15,000 in damages and costs after I assisted a client in a case of unlawful eviction asked my husband what it was like to be married to a fXXXXXg Rotweiller!!!
Good luck
LOL, yeah I joked a few years ago I only do jobs where Im hated, so far been in Childrens Social work, estate agency, HIPS (!) True enough!
Only need to do this sort of thing, then work for the inland revenue and traffic warden ( or highways enforcement representative- or however the LAs try to dress it so traffic wardens dont have to say what they do) to run the full gamut.
:rotfl::rotfl:
Keep up the good work :beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

This Ive come to know...

definitely, most definitely, take a witness with you - one who is willingto write a Witness Statement for the future proceedings should you decide to go that route.
as a LL i have read this thread with utter horror and can only apologise on behalf of the majority of decent landlords in this country....
When you paid over your deposit at the beginning of the tenancy did your LL put it into a Deposit Scheme and give you particulars of that scheme ?
Even if you have no access to your files you can check this out on-line - if she has not registered it, there is another breach of the law.. and you could take her to court for 3 times that deposit.
However, i also would not feel safe going back there, and i expect you just want to find another place, and forget this horror - only you can decide if you have the energy to pursue her through the courts .....
If you can persuade the police to prosecute then they will do all the criminal work..... but you may want to take her to the small claims court ... if you do, then i suggest you talk to a solicitor - (some have a free half hour) to see on what grounds you can sue her.... in addition to the Tenancy Deposit legislation....
if you do, you will get a huge amount of help from this board i'm sure....
if you are in the BANES area i may be able to find the name of a good legal representative, or in the Manchester area similarly......
bw
Agree to a point but I fear you are giving poor advice here in terms of the small claims court. ( maybe its late and tired- it happens to us all !:A)
Small claims is only up to 5k. Solicitors dont generally represent in SCC either.
I dont know about OP, but my possessions are "worth" at least 5 grand, my bookcase contents alone would be 1k to buy everything from new....We are covered on our personal contents up to 25k, hich to be honest is probably slightly too high but 5k wouldnt cut it at all ( wouldn't even replace the furniture & white goods)
Small claims also cant prosecute criminally. This is a criminal case and absolutely must be treated as such.
Small claims also cant award damages, which clearly the OP needs to get a lawyer working on.
I do agree that I wouldn't feel safe going there either, I would bet on her being in the house or some sort of "representative" - whatever you do do not kick the door in, I know its appealing but just don't in case someone is hiding inside to beat the living daylights out of you. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most?
