Evicted, locks changed, no notice...

To the OP: this is kind of odd. No normal LL would change the locks under such circumstances. Is there any reason as to why she has fallen out with you that you have not elaborated on? And given that you visited her before (as you said in your first post), why can't you go back and discuss the issue face to face?
if only this were true, a lot of landlords make up the rules as they go along , often they have become landlords by chance and do not know what their responsabilities or obligations are.
They assume it is their house and they can do what they like which is not he case once they accept rent for it.0 -

Quite.
Another choice quote from the above book was "people are surprised at Rachmanism- they shouldnt be, it never went away". Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Well indeed if the LL is like that...
I do wonder if there's more to this than meets the eye, though.
there may very well be but 2 wrongs dont make a right and the landlord has now opened herself up to criminal prosecution and possible large damages, there is a legal process to evict someone and landlord should know it . If she is going to take the rent she has to accept there are rules she has to follow.
What makes some Landlords think they are above the law?0 -

As I said, there may be more to this than the OP has revealed.
Why did the OP claim they do not have the LL's address yet they said they visited her to fill in some forms?
They may have lost the LL's phone number but surely they know their name and can look it up on the internet/yellow pages?
Why would a LL evict a well paid NHS Doctor if they were 6 days late with the rent? They have a deposit... or do they? For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -

My phone number isnt stored on either of these two places? Are yours? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I dont know why the op would say they have visited the ll and then say does not know the address, nor do I know if they have lost the phone number but I do kow my number is ex directory so why can the landladys be?
Would a ll evict a Dr for being 6 days late in the rent , I have known Landlords try and unlawfully evict a person for being a day late so may be.
The point is that if she has not issued a valid notice either a s21 or a s8, and been granted both a possession order and a baliffs warrant by the court SHE has committed a civil AND a criminal offence and should be arrested.
Landlords are not above the law, what ever they may think and if only the police knew their job and arrested a few more of them for taking this action perhaps things would change.0 -
Yes, I visited her the middle of last month. I don't have her address anymore. I used TomTom on my phone to navigate to her house after a long weekend shift (8am to 9pm). I can't remember where exactly it was, other than it being about 4-5 miles out of the city centre. I went on holiday a couple of days after visiting her place and we ended up driving around 3000 miles in 3 weeks around the West coast of America. My memory of roads I've only been on once a month ago is a little hazy.
I paid a 6 week deposit.
I have her name and could have tried to locate her with that... I didn't think to though. Yes I know I could/should have made more effort to contact her. I didn't think waiting a week for my phone to come back would get me chucked out.0
