would they be able to get a locksmith out without showing a tenancy agreement?

actually thinking about it- how can anyone ever prove to a locksmith they're authorised to change locks/ prove they own the property?
technically, you don't need a locksmith as you can change it by yourself - it's quite easy job when you have an access from inside of the house

    yeah? so?

I'm originally from London and work on a training rotation in the West Midlands. What on earth has my job got to do with being evicted and having all my possessions locked in a flat in Wolverhampton?!

Since when did a junior doctor earn £50K a year? Senior registrars only earn around that and they are one year away from Consultant Surgeon not on an 8 year training programme :rotfl:

Got back from work tonight and found my locks had been changed!

I'm 6 days late with the rent. This is because my phone fell/shattered and I need to call the landlady to get her new bank details (she wanted the direct debit changing last month, got me to go round to hers and fill in the form with her new details, but the bank rejected it for "security reasons"... she took it to the bank herself as I was going on holiday). I have a backup of my phone which I was going to restore when I got it back from repair and was going to call her. At the moment I don't have her phone number or address... (I know, not the greatest organisation skills).

I assume that's why I've had the locks changed. Being late with rent and not contactable?!

On Wednesday of this week I knew someone had been into the flat as the post had moved onto the kitchen table and the locks on the front door had been locked differently to how I leave it usually. But there was no note left for me.

So I was stuck... in a city 150 miles from my friends/family with £10 in my pocket and no phone.

I went to the police station... they said it was 'a civil matter and couldn't offer any help'.

Luckily I had a tank of petrol... I've just driven back 3 hours to my parents house.

So where do I go from here? I really need my possessions! I really need to find a place to live! I really need some help! :(

Very badly advised by the police it is a criminal offence to illegally evict someone under section 6 and 7 of the criminal law act 1977. Take legal advice re damages and go back to the police and ask them to reserch this section of the law and get you re instated.

Senior registrar is an outdated term. As a class of doctor it should no longer exist.

I am a speciality registrar. We are classed as junior doctors. Any doctor other than a consultant is classed as a junior doctor (that included senior registrars).

Here you'll find the junior doctor pay scales:

Back in 2008 I was on point 3 of the speciality registrar scale. That is basic salary and does not include the on-call supplement. I have been on a Band 2B supplement for the past few years. That means my salary is multiplied by 1.5 to give my total. You'll find it comes to around £50k.

What my pay has to do with being illegally evicted I have no idea.

"Junior doctors earn a basic salary and will usually be paid a supplement. This supplement is based on the extra hours worked above a 40 hour standard working week and the intensity of the work. The most common banding supplement is 50% of basic salary. In the most junior hospital doctor post (foundation year 1) a doctor on a 50% supplement would earn £33,285. This increases in the second year (foundation year 2) to £41,285. A doctor in specialist training on a 50% supplement could earn from £44,117 to £69,369."

As a junior doctor on a surgical rotation my sister in law was earning circa £60k.

OP, by now I'd have got a locksmith round and be back in the flat, presenting the Landlord with a very large bill. Good luck getting it all sorted and let us know how you get on.

Happy Birthday and I don't care how much you earn! ;-)

I think you are being far too nice. You need to get your locksmith lined up to meet you at the house ASAP. You need to go to your LL house ASAP and sort this out. You might prefer to put your circumstances in writing if it will help you articulate this but ultimately you must point out that she has illegally 'tried' to evict you.

Be prepared to move on, I'm sure she'll want you out now and I don't think I could stand to have a LL that kneejerk. (On reflection I'm adding maybe LL has had non-payment before which went bad and felt this is the only way to deal with the situation).

Good Luck and I hope you get access back to you home, even if just to pack up under the circumstances.

For a "bit of fun", you might hint to the police that your LL might have been looking around your flat for drugs too .... "as she knows I'm a Doctor .... might have thought .... drugs in my flat ...."

Back to the original thing: There is NO WAY the LL has ANY legal right to change the locks when you're just a few days late with your rent. She is COMPLETELY out of order. This is illegal eviction. You are in the right .... LL is a moron.

Good luck with getting yourself back in and putting this moron's actions behind you.

    Hi,

I'm getting along ok thanks. It's actually my birthday today. I'm at my parents house with my brother, sister, aunt and cousins.

My girlfriend's dad has offered to put me up for a while close to work if I can't find anywhere. I should be ok though, I can sleep somewhere at work if I'm desperate.

I'm waiting for the estate agent that advertised the place last year to call me back with the landlady's number at the moment.

I've done a little internetting and have a clearer idea of where to go from here. Thanks for those that've helped so far.

So what are you going to do about your LL's illegal eviction of yourself? Don't let her get away with it!!!

Sort it out sooner rather than later!

And keep us posted, most of us are on your side! :)
I love giving home made gifts, which one of my children would you like? :D :A :D

I have been able to make contact with the landlady with the help of the old estate agent. She wouldn't speak on the phone when I called saying she was busy and has just sent me a txt saying...

Your belongings have been removed. We have no intention of keeping them. Can you meet me today to return keys and collect your things. Please confirm a time.

Er... what the hell? How screwed up is that?!

Wow, unbelieveable. Get that locksmith ordered or get yourself down to the police station. She should not be allowed to get away with that.

What are you planning to do?
