Strange as you said you'd previously visited her home.
Try reading the thread: that bit has been answered. Keep up!RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
Read the sticky on the House Buying, Renting & Selling board.0 -
Touche - I take it the police know that some items haven't been returned to you. You should tell your insurer what happened (no idea if they would pay on this - as entry wasn't forced - but you could invalidate a possible claim if you don't tell them promptly).
Get legal advice, if you haven't already. If your research data is confidential then hopefully it's securely encrypted; if not, you may need to get in touch with your hospital or university so they can take appropriate action re the loss. Likewise, if you have any personal info stored insecurely on the laptop etc. that could cause you problems (passwords etc.) I'd look to get these changed. LL may not do anything untoward with this stuff (and may not know how to) but given your past experience it's worth being cautious.
I don't know why so many here are keen to bash the OP. An illegal eviction is an illegal eviction, even if rent is late. It can be horrible when payment is late, but if we took the law into our own hands whenever this happened then there'd be chaos :eek:0 -

Especially as (based on the info provided by the OP in the thread) the rent was late due to a change of payment method by the LL (Oh, and the bank I suppose)0 -
It is for the scum to consider the effect on their family, not the victim's worry.
The scum chose their actions, the victim wasn't making choices.0 -

SatNav on phone to LL house, phone now broken. Only one trip, OP knows rough area but not address.
Exactly, a mate of mine knows roughly what area I live in but he always has to ask for the postcode for his satnav when he comes over because he's not good with directions despite being here before. It's not that uncommon. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
The Op sounds like me when it comes to directions and remembering, I have managed to get lost going to a friends house that I had been too more than once.0

You're a Daily Mail reader, and I claim my £5!
By the way, the Daily Mail is printed in black and white for a good reason. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Laptop was found in a box wrapped up. Both my external hard disks are there. No confidential information is kept in my research data (all anonomysed); as per my original ethics application all confidential data is stored in a locked room in a London university. I store no sensitive information on my laptop.
I found my girlfriend's uniform (she was very pleased!).
Around £1500 in books are missing (mostly hefty medical textbooks), £50 in kitchen utensils/pans, £150 subwoofer and around £200-300 in cufflinks. A few other small items seem to be missing (I will only be certain when I finally move in to my new place). Havent seen my cheque book (cancelled) or credit cards (cancelled). The police are aware things are missing, they are not aware of specifics yet, but they did ask me to make a list and bring it to my meeting later in the week.
I have arranged a place to live starting next Tuesday. Until then I'm sleeping on a friend's floor very close to work.
I have arranged to work extra weekends for the next 3 weeks. This will pay for my legal expenses.0 -
Good luck Touche. What an absolute nightmare. I can't believe what I am reading .0
