I had moles removed with laser a few years ago. At the beginning they were healing very nicely, but still left scars.
I'd like to remove some small moles from my face, so really worry about scarring.0 -
Thank you macca.
Hope you continue to heal well...pls keep us all posted.0 -
Hi Guys
I have been following this thread now for a while online and I have to say that I have found it most useful. It's very reassuring to know that there are other people out there who are considering mole removal. It's great to have all of this info in mind when contemplating such an important decision. Anyhow, on to my experience.
I've been contemplating having a large raised mole removed from my face now for around a year and, having done as much research online as possible, decided to undergo mole removal at the Nottingham Clinic. As others on this forum have already noted, I found the staff there to be most helpful. The procedure itself was performed by Dr Hamilton. He told me that he has performed over 4000 removals and that in this time he has only seen about 20/40 cases of what he described as "noticeable scarring." He even showed me where he had recently removed 2 moles from his own arm and I can verify that there was no scarring and only very very slight differentiation in terms of pigmentation (rather like the pictures on the website). On the subject of pictures, when I asked to see additional pictures he informed that this was not possible because: Firstly, in order to display pictures the clinic needs written consent from patients which is rather difficult to obatin as you can imagine. Secondly, most patients do not ever return to the clinic since they are happy with thre results and therefore have no need.
Anyway, on to the procedure itself. The whole procedure lasts around 5/10 minutes during which time you are asked to lay down on a bed. There is an initial injection (some pain here) quickly followed by the removal itself during which I could not feel anything. The procedure itself, whilst no doubt unpleasant, is nothing to be too worried about.
Following the removal Dr Hamilton put a plaster over the area and told me to do this in the evenings to prevent me from knocking the scab during the night. As I'm sure most of you are aware the scab is meant to fall off after around 2 weeks to reveal a pink area of skin similar to that experienced after a spot.
In terms of initial impressions, the area itself seems flat (no scarring) although there appears to be some dark pigment left at the top. Dr Hamilton explained to me that he is always reluctant to go to deep to begin with and said that sometimes (not sure how many, seems to be a minority) patients come back for a second procedure to remove any pigmentation that was not done first time around. He assured me that, if required, this second procedure would be carried out free of charge.
Thus, although it's early days I am pleased with how things are shaping up so far. I will, of course, endeavour to keep you all up to date. Specifically, I will try and give you all as much info as possible with regards to the ultimate cosmetic results! I am, of course, happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks for reading!0 -
I have spent the last 10 years wanting to have a mole removed from my face, but have been worrying about scarring.
I have read what people have said about the Nottingham laser clinic. I have now heard of another clinic Selston Cosmetic clinic, which is also in Nottingham. They charge £75 for radio surgery. It is carried out by a Dr Bassi. Has anyone heard about this?0 -
I have finally taken the plunge and booked to have my mole removed at the Nottingham laser clinic.....I go in a couple of weeks, though very nervous.0

I've just had 2 moles on my face removed under NHS care (both large and growing and had lost their colour). 1 cut off and laser cauterised the other cut off and silver nitrate used to cauterised. I had them done a week apart. The laser one first, the scab has come off and looks good a tiny indentation. Will this disappear? The other one is still black and am still cleaning both with saline.
Did anyone do anything special to help prevent scarring afterwards?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -

If you do get scarring, I suggest you use something like Kojic acid (Around £100 for a month pack, works wonders! Search Altacare they sent me one for only £50, it also comes with whitening patches. Saying your company gets your 50% off!)
Use sunblock
And here are some remedies:

NHS leaflet about scaring:

Hi
I have had three moles removed by the new innovative system at the Nottingham Laser clinic by Dr Maini. It is called Radio Surgery.
For me I am very pleased. After 4 - 6 week you could not even see where the big raised mole was on my cheek. The one on my arm has practically disappeared a very small pink mark which I think is better than the dark raised brown one.
In my eyebrow has left a slight raised pink mark but nothing like the big brown mole that was there.
I am considering having a couple more done, based on the results from this.
I think the location on your body depends on how well they heal. The best was the face. In general I have found that healing on the face is always quite good compared to other parts of body. (For me).
I had moles removed years ago with traditional method and there is a slight scar from them that I do not have from this radio surgery. There must be skill involved and slight risk of not being a good job but I think they are confident.
You must follow aftercare procedure of putting vaseline around area carefully for a week or so. This helps good healing so follow instructions.
You must make your own mind up but I was pleased with it.0
